Instructor update in NC

Post by Jonna H » Sun Jun 06, 2010 5:34 pm

I have contacted Jimmy Holcomb, a long-time paddler and instructor at NOC, who has agreed to do an ACA instructor update with me. Would anyone like to come out to the Nantahala area and do this with me? I am looking at July 14, 15, or 16. Contact me soon so we can confirm this with Jimmy. 479 301-5675

I don't just need the update - I need the whole shee-bang! :) I would love to go out to NC for certification sometime. I've never gotten my cert, in large part because I have an aversion to hot south AR summers (especially camping) and because it never made sense to me to do a whitewater cert where there was hardly any whitewater. I've argued for some time that ACC should fund a cert class in the summer in NC. I'd gladly drive out there to get some real water under my boat and nice camping, and I bet others would too. Cheaper for ACC too I bet, since instructor doesn't have to travel.

If anyone gets a cert class set up out there, let me know.

Glad to hear your interest, Fish! I had proposed doing both an update and/or cert class out East and was pooh-poohed over it, but I believe it could be a viable option: not everyone would be interested in doing it, but it might be a really good option for a group. I'll keep bringing it up as an idea and maybe it will happen after all!

Jonna - I had checked into NOC for an update for a small group and decided not to do it this year (I'm not due until next year), but I will actually be out there during that time. I'm not sure I will do it since I'll be with a group of friends, but I plan to call you later to discuss!!!

Thanks,
H
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.
