Arkansas River Canoe and kayak Race (Saturday 6/5/10)
The 2010 Arkansas River
Canoe and Kayak Race will be June 5, 2010.
It's time to pull that boat out and dust off your vest and paddle. Warmer weather is coming and so is the Arkansas River Canoe & Kayak Race. This fast 6.5 mile down river race is one of the most scenic races in the country. The race starts at Little Rock's Murray Park, passes North Little Rock's Emerald Park cliffs on your left with the State Capital and downtown Little Rock on your right. You will paddle under 5 bridges and finish on the North Little Rock side at the Arkansas Boathouse Rowing club.
The great thing about this race is you can be a world class racer or just want to have some fun and take in the sights. Bring your friends and family see some of the fastest racers in the south and some of the slowest.

Re: Arkansas River Canoe and kayak Race
Just wondering if many ACC members participate in this. I've paid my entry fee, but later realized a shuttle would be involved, and I'm going alone. Thanks.

I am not sure how many ACC members are there. I know of several and the ACC has always helped sponsor the race.
There will be a shuttle back to your you car furnished by the city of NLR.
Its fun just to look at the different boats from WW boats to the 21 ft carbon surfskis

I know some of you might be looking at the River right now and it is high.
I have talked to the Corps and they think if we don`t don`t have any major rain fall the River will be in good shape.
I will paddle it several times before the race to make sure it is ok for the race.

I'm glad you will be doing a "test run" My friends think I've lost my last marble  for wanting to float the AR river.
See you there!

The River is dropping out and looking good . Looks like from the people that have signed up this could be a RECORD YEAR.
You can still register the morning of the race.

Never to late to give a try.
Its fun just looking at all the different boats.
There will be some outstanding out of state paddlers coming in, I hope
Arkansas paddlers can hold their on, I can always depend on Mike Herbert.
If you have never seen him race you need to come see him.

I think Mike was at the Syllamo Marathon last weekend on the White River at Sylamore. In fact, I believe he won the 10 mile race, with a time of just over 50 minutes.

Yes he did and he beat everyone one else pretty bad , I know I was one of them. I think he said he was doing about 12 miles per hour.
I finished 3rd and was under a hour but he was really moving I never got over 11 mph

How many are signed up so far? Dale and I have sent in our registration. By the way we beat Mike Herbert in a race this weekend. We had to get him to paddle a canoe to do it.

I have not counted them, but it looks like it could be a record year. I paddled the River Monday and it was in great shape for the race. I`m sure if you beat Mike there will be some payback.

I`m going to paddle the course in the morning Thursday to check things out. There are several people going so if anyone is free come on out.
This a open paddle for anyone and you will be on your on.
The River is in great shape for the race.
The people on TV are nuts telling people that its 4 times its normal when I`m looking at the website that says its not, really makes me mad

I don't live close to LR . . . what did you find out on your excursion today?
I was at Sylamo this afternoon, the White River is beautiful today, not brown like it was for the race.
So far, I'm still planning to give it a try Saturday. Unless my kids have me committed before then.
