public access...drop off.. on the spring river
yes.. i tried the search. thats a chore i hope not to use again..... but anyway.. i have floated the spring two or three times but never in my own canoe. a friend told me that they don't let people who bring there own 'floaters' to drop off at the start of it.. that its private land. can someone give me a heads up on that. would hate to drive up that far and get my rig towed.. thanks!

Crayoneater, the dam access where most of the floaters put in (commercial or private) is a AGF&C access so it is open to the public. After that, the various accesses are private (campground or real private) until you get WAAAAAAAAAAY down. Best take-out if you put in there is Spring River Oaks. Drive in and talk with campground greeter and tell them that you wish to drop a shuttle vehicle there and they will charge you accordingly. SAFE and NOTOW! Some of us have used the Riverside CG for put-in for that same trip and it takes a couple of slow miles off the trip. Same deal. Drive in and tell them what you what to do. Again, your vehicle is secure.

Your friend might have been referring to some of the privately held land above the Fish hatchery, closer to Mammoth Spring. I've never floated that section; 99% of the floating begins near the Fish Hatchery and points below. There is plenty of public parking at the normal put in.

Here's some scoop....
Longest usual trip is from the dam down to Many Islands.
For an all dayer, down to Hardy. Beware of High Falls rapid,
scout first or portage it.
Riverside Resort (our usual put-in, couple of miles below Dam).

Spring River Oaks (our usual take out). For a few dollars for each vehicle, you can park down by the river.

Many Islands (optional take out below SRO)

What is slow about paddling from Dam 3 to Riverside? It is hard to even take 30 minutes to do so.Roger wrote: Some of us have used the Riverside CG for put-in for that same trip and it takes a couple of slow miles off the trip. Same deal. Coldspring, You are correct in that it doesn't take very long to make the trip from Dam#3 down to Riverside in many instances, but in some cases it can be just great for float-fishing all afternoon, or stretching it out teaching paddling for instance. On other float trips, where folks are driving three or four hours one way just to get there for a partial day float, often the choice is to opt to put in at Riverside to 'surf every wave, and catch every eddy', and enjoy the better features on that whole stretch below Riverside, down to Spring River Oaks :)Heck, sometimes we even float it all. I hope you will join in on one of trips sometime.

Does anyone know the best public access point to go to on spring river for tubing and where the best shuttle point would be from there
