Colorado Too!!

Hey guys and gals, I am considering taking a float trip to Colorado with my wife, here are my questions: Where is a good river with class 1 ish water? Should I go on a guided trip or not? We are still pretty new but we want get out and see the world out of our canoe a little bit..

Have seen canoes on the green around Moab down to the confluence.

Have seen a few solo WW canoes in CO.

Not saying there is not a lot of canoe floating class 1 water in CO, I just have not seen them. Lots of kayaks and rafts and IK tho.

Yeah I found some stuff on the Gunnison and Fruita rivers out around Grand Junction they are guided as far as I could tell, and I'm ok with that too..I am just trying to get informed opinions on these ond others, so thanks for your input...

It would be best to wait till mid aug. to go out. Low water runs on the Ar. river below salida would be oneish but you have to know where your put ins and take outs are because it does have good rapids around too. Flapjack

The Gunnison From Escalnte to Whitewater is a great Class I ish run. There is one Class II+ but it is easy to miss the lone hole. The run is around 30 miles and there is great camping and hiking in Domigez canyon.

Ruby/Horsethief Canyon on the Colorado would be a possibility.

The Missouri Whitewater Association has a beginner / intermediate canoe & kayak trip every year lead by Chris Kelly. Ask about it on their message board if you don't find the info posted there. I went on it a couple of times and it's a great group of folks. You can stop by the Royal Gorge on the way out there and raft or just look off the bridge 1000 foot below. I highly recommend looking in to it! Good Luck!
