River locator/ info/description/ internet site
A couple years ago i found this great white water river description /info site on the Internet. ( i think it might have had float rivers also, i cant remember for sure) It would let you check how many miles from a particular city you wanted river info on. You could check under 50 miles,or 100 or 200 etc .It would give the name of rivers, sections , info and rapid class... of only the rivers within the distance you were looking ;from a particular city. If you were going some where it would make it super easy and fast to find rivers IN ONLY THAT PARTICULAR AREA you were wanting to know about. I have googled searched alot and cant find it. Have never seen another one like it. I had saved it on my desktop but my computer is now screwed up and a lot of my desktop icons shortcuts and word documents keep disappearing off my desktop.Does anyone know what the river site might be called?

The site you seek is http://riverfacts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Start your search by selecting either the "Mountain Range" or State, then scroll to the bottom of the page that appears, choose a city in the area, and then it refines the rivers to those that are close.

I've run across this site before. I stopped trusting it when I read this on the part talking about West Horsehead "The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arkansas are often more forgiving than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere." Ya, great words to remember when firing up that run
It could be worse, it could stop raining

Thanks loads. That's the site. ///// And yeah, they said the same- (rivers here are more forgiving)about Penn. and West Virginia too. There not really very good for describing rivers or rapids. But THEY FIND the rivers where you want to go and give the rapid class. And the map for the putin and take out would be very helpful. And i like it that at the corner of that map it has another little map with the river section and the city. So you can really tell where there at and if other rivers are are on the way in the same direction. And you could then check elsewhere for more info on those rivers you found.
Re: River locator/ info/description/ internet site
The descriptions of the steep creeks around AR are mostly silly and the constant reminder that in AR the whitewater is all highly overrated is hilarious!
Just a couple samples of the description from a couple of 200+ fpm micro creeks that have been run only a few times each in the past 15 years: "The wonderful Crawford County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Ben Doodle Branch will make you feel great." and "The natural beauty of Arkansas and the playfulness of the water have people coming [to Hart Creek]."
Now that's some great beta folks. :-)
Might want to stick to descriptions that were written by folks who live around those parts and not to templates filled out by drunken ad-happy cyber-monkeys.
The misinformation on the site is simply dangerous.

I totally agree that River Facts sucks, the whole spatial relation to cities feature is cool and different, but the AW drainage summary feature allows you to get a relative grasp for area specific runs.

Cadron Creek, Middle Fork,
Highway 356 to Highway 124 (6.4 miles)
The above information is from
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/4336/
and it is incorrect information. Hwy 356 is crossed by the NORTH Fork of the Cadron. Another site has Hwy 356 in Faulkner county, and it's in Van Buren county!
I don't trust those sites very much.
