Whoopee! More swamp floats with DeBo and Cowper!
I look forward to floating the wetlands again. Will have to see what my work schedule will allow, though.

Hey Debo & Cowper!! So here I am, brand spankin new to the Natural State...I'm interested in the Wattensaw Bayou paddle...just one problem...I don't know any paddlers in the area...YET...and seeing how hard it would be to get a ride back to the top...;c) Getting down isn't a problem at all!!

Hey Melissa,
As time gets closer Debbie or Cowper will post the meeting time and place (for Wattensaw, usually the T-Rick's gas station at the Hazen exit off I-40) and everyone will meet up and then work out shuttle as a group. Actually, depending on the water levels, Wattensaw can be done either as a down stream float or an in and back. Interesting place to explore but very easy to get lost if you don't have GPS if the water is high and the timber is flooded!
You'll discover that from Central AR you can go an hour east and paddle by huge cypress trees in the swamp, or go north to the turquoise waters of the Ozark creeks. There really is a diversity of places to explore here from your canoe or kayak.
I don't think I'll be able to join on 4/10 due to other plans, but it's a neat area to explore!

Re: 2010 Spring Wetlands Touring Schedule
I've made several changes to the schedule. Thanks for catching the "thursday" float, corrected to Sunday. Changed one date to align with Cowper's only day off that weekend. Had to cancel one so I can attend the Canoe Instructor course I signed up for.
I'm still checking for another possible conflict, so check back for more updates.
I'm also thinking of adding one more - a Palarm Creek clean-up. There are no longer any mandatory portages from Lake Conway down to the Bell Slough parking area, so this float located half-way between Little Rock and Conway is "open for business". It just needs a good litter-cleaning to make it a little more woodsy and a little less urban in appearance.

Here is another change to the schedule. Due to the forecast of rain on Saturday 4-24 I am rescheduling the Maddox Bay trip for Sunday 4-25. See Maddox Bay post.
