Seeking solo canoe set up for rec paddling

I have a friend looking for a solo canoe but she doesn't want a full whitewater setup, apparently wants a standard seat not a saddle. She's in NW Ark but some flexibility to go get the right boat if travel is needed.

I assume she could/should consider a small tandem (14 ft or less) but honestly don't know. I know she wants a boat that she can handle herself and I'm guessing that weight and length are the big issues, rather than seating configuration.

You might want to look at a Mohawk Solo 14 in their Royalite layup. I have one, and it is very light and easy for my to handle by myself. It's a great little boat! Not going to win any races, but as long as you don't have a "need for speed" it's a pleasure to paddle. I think mine weighs about 38 lbs - easy for me to car top and carry by my self.

I have gotten a couple other canoes now and probably should consider selling mine (and when I saw this post considered it!) but I'm not ready to let it go yet!

Sounds like Mohawk will be at Whitewater School on the Mulberry next weekend, and they may be planning to only bring their ww models to show/demo, but if she's interested you might see if they could bring a Solo 14 for her to demo. Or - actually depending on her size - if she's on the petite side, a Solo 13.

For the price, I think it's hard to beat for a lightweight canoe for us gals to handle without going to the VERY pricey kevlar models.
