Yesterday, Saturday, we ran the East Fork of the Cadron from the bridge at Hwy 36 to the bridge at 107. The gauge on the North Cadron was at 4.5 which was good since the East Fork needs more water to run. It was beautiful--the bluffs, the red buds, deer, etc. The rapids were great, especially the last two miles with big waves. There were four times we had to get out due to strainers. Last summer I cut some of them out and need to do it again when it warms up a bit. I think this section is far prettier and better rapids than the North Fork and would like to get more people interested in running it. Paddling between the tupelo trees by the bluffs is awesome. Here is the description from the state guide:
The stretch from Highway 36 bridge to Highway 107 bridge is the most popular stretch on the East Fork of Cadron Creek. Tubelo gum trees shade the water as it changes abruptly from calm pools to tumbling rapids every few hundred feet. In high water, standing waves can swamp open canoes and the tupelos in the path of fast current can be canoe wreckers. Special attractions are Star Bluff, Buzzard's Root Mansfield Bluff and Rainbow Falls
