Where's Richard McFadden on the Buffalo?
Has anyone heard where Richard McFadden is on his Buffalo trip?
He was going for "the whole thing" last I heard, from Ponca last Tuesday.

I've only been on the Buffalo a couple of times, so my mind map of the river is not good, but I do know they were going to try and cover about 20-22 miles a day. If that wind they were expecting the first couple of days didn't slow them down too much, that might give you an idea of where they are by now. Real helpful, huh? And, yes, the goal was to cover the entire river . . . hoping to be off Wednesday or Thursday if all went according to plan.

Re: Where's Richard McFadden on the Buffalo?
Good afternoon.
What a treat to have last week and this week's weather for the Ponca to White River trip. The river gods have smiled on Richard apparently, and deservedly so. What a dynamite retirement trip. I had mailed a rainsuit to Tyler Bend (left in my vehicle the previous week) for Richard to pick up and the park says he picked it up Friday, so the adventure must be keeping schedule quite well.
Be great to read the report when finished.

It's bound to be a book! And I hope they are taking lots of pictures, too! Oh, to be retired . . .
Re: Where's Richard McFadden on the Buffalo?
I am home! If I had to sum it up in one word that word would be WIND. Two words would be WIND - WATER. But since I am entitled to more than just two words it will take a bit to get things sorted out and posted. Bottom line: It was an outstanding and wonderful trip. Will be posting more about it later.

Remember ta type it up in another program and copy it over. Hate for the report to be the most stressful part.
Thought about you on what was prolly the windiest days of the year.

Welcome home, Richard!

I have three words to add to your summation, Brother Richard!
Trip of a Life, Something You Have Always Wanted, Perfect Way to Launch a Retirement, and Hope You Didn't Run Out of Ice!
Well, hokay, a couple more than three, but it sure beats not ever doing it at all!
Welcome back, Bro!
Looking forward to your thoughts!

Terry, No ice! Robert is a long distance hiker. Did the 2000 mile Appalachian thru-hike in 4 1/2 months. 20 miles a day average! Also did the 500 mile Colorado Trail. So he was all about dehydrated food and drink. It worked out very well. No ice really simplifies things. He was an incredible person to paddle with.
And yes it was a great way to start a retirement. I love the Buffalo and the people it has allowed me to meet and call my friends.
