Re: Upper Buffalo this Weekend.
Just a little update of how the trip went.
Got to Lost Valley State park on Friday evening in the rain. It rained all night, got soaked in the tent so I ended up in the car for sleep. Woke up early, got the fire going again and scrounged around for food then relaxed till about 11 when we headed for the Ponca put in. Once we got there we were greeted with a herd of elk right next to the road. Got out and got close enough to smell them, probably top 5 coolest things I have ever experienced. There was no air space at the bridge when we put in at 11:30. From then on, I had a blast. Biggest rapids I have personally done, on top of that in a kayak. Apparently during the assembly of my Remix, the LL boys didn't tighten up the screw that holds the cable for the skeg to the lever enough. So most of the trip was done with limited use of it. The boat performed amazing. I learned that for stuff like this I need a spray skirt, but it was worth getting wet. I had tons of room to fill up the hatch with whatever I wanted to. We made it from Ponca to Kyle's Landing, stopping about 5 times and not really paddling a lot in 4 hours. As I said earlier I had an absolute blast, one trip in my yak and I already want some more.
