School of River Paddling June 5-7, 2015

Post by WPC » Sat Mar 07, 2015 7:43 pm

The Arkansas Canoe Club School of River Paddling (formerly known as Rec School) will be held June 5-7, 2015 at Riverside Resort on the Spring River. The school is designed to introduce basic paddling techniques such as river reading, ferrying, peel outs and catching eddies as well as recognizing river hazards.

Registration will open in mid-April after registration for Whitewater School closes. An email will be sent to members, and a post will be made on the message board when registration opens.

If you interested in volunteering as support staff during the event, please feel free to contact me.

Food for thought the promo video makes it seem like it would include boards!

Would I be out of line to ask why?

Not at all, however, I don't have an answer for you. This is my first year as Director, so that is not a decision I would make. I will forward your questions to see if I can get a better response to you.

My first guess would be lack of instructors. If no instructors volunteer, you can't have class. Conversely, lower interest from paddling community versus traditional paddle sports.

We have not had any expressed interest in the past, but if there is interest and there is an instructor available, we will look at adding a class next year.

Thanks,
Diane
