3M Duct tapes in my Christmas Stocking

Post by Eric Esche » Sun Dec 25, 2011 11:03 am

Do not know yet how much different it is, but Susan as Santa's helper and a river user of duct tape since the late 1970's, got me 2 rolls of Duct tape that 3M is marketing and rating as TOUGH with 6 level ratings for Strength and Weatherability. The roll rated 5/5 looks like the good old reliable stuff, the roll rated 6/4 is supposed to be the strongest.

Also noticed that the 5/5 rated roll which is sold in 45 yard rolls, is a smaller diameter roll than the "toughest" roll which is sold in 35 yard roll lengths which is 3/4" wider diameter roll, making it LOOK like you are getting more tape, when you are actually getting 10 yards less.

They are both a very dark grey in color and manufacturered in Canada. Will let y'all know how they work out on and off the river.

Eric, I would be interested in finding out if you think this stuff is better than Gorilla Tape. Which I have been using lately.

I've got some military grade duct tape...about 3"+ wide that I keep with me on all boating expeditions...kayak and canoe...nothing special except being green and pretty bomber from the local surplus store... I was watching some footage from Bomb Flow and noticed Evin Garcia had an elbow pad "glued" together with some silver tape...it'a gotta be good!

Paddledog...like your avater..here's one of my doctored pix

Well, since we're off topic and sharing photos, here's one I kind of like.

Not photoshop; taken near where I-40 crosses the White River, on May 13, 2011. This was just a few days after the river had dropped enough to reopen I-40, the sign is on the old road that runs parallel to the freeway and now ends at the river. Original message was "river ahead", but I like it better this way. Keeps you from getting confused and thinking you're on Lake Arkansas.
