Wood Canvas Canoe For Sale

Price: $500

18 foot (18') Chestnut wood canvas. Model is a Voyageur from the Prospector series, a longer version of the Chestnut Prospector that Bill Mason made famous. I restored it in the 1990's. My friend and I paddled and portaged this in the Boundary Waters three times. Loaded with lots of gear, it paddles fast. There is nothing like wood. It is a joy to paddle, even with long portages.

Dimensions are as follows:
Length: 18'
Beam: 35-1/2" (measured between inside planking)
Depth at bow: 20" (not sure how this should be measured)
Depth at beam: 15-1/4" (measured from inside planking to top of ribs)
Rib width" 2-3/8"
Rib spacing: 2"
Planking width: 4"
Cant ribs: 4"

Summary of restoration work done in the early 1990's:

Milled new ash gunnels using specs I found in Bill Mason's "Song of the Paddle".
Made new thwarts and a center carrying yoke from ash.
Replaced the heavy wood slat seats with hand-caned ash seats.
Made new decks from a piece of burl maple.
Canvassed, filled, painted, and varnished.

Condition:

Floats and no leaks
Usable for wilderness trip
Decks and gunnels in sound condition.
Seats and caning in great shape
Two cracked ribs have been mended with "sister" ribs as seen in the photo
Cracked planking mended with small brass sheet placed between planking and ribs
Shallow scratches in paint on outside of hull
