New to boards and ACC, looking for kayak

Post by rivernole » Tue May 12, 2015 6:40 am

Hello all! My name is Ian and I'm new to the ACC. I'm looking to buy a used whitewater kayak and sprayskirt that would be good for a man who hasn't logged just a ton of time on the river but would leave room for growth in skills. I'm 5'10" 170lbs and have a 32in waist. Also I'm signed up for river school this year and I would like to attend whitewater school next year so it would be nice to find something this month if possible. Any help for a newbie would be much appreciated, thanks!

Ian,

I have a Dagger GTX that is in very good shape and an old school Werner paddle. I unfortunately do not have a skirt anymore. I sent you a PM.

Rivernole

For what it is worth, most any river runner river running play boat or creeker would work to get going

Until a person gets some time in a kayak it is hard to pick an ideal kayak

Best thing I advise is for you to pick up a used river runner and get going on paddling it. I had a GTX and that is a good river running design in my opinion.

Welcome to the ACC. What Okieboater said. Check the Gear Swap page for creekers, river runners, or crossovers (XP 9), just not a playboat.

Get a most recent generation dagger mamba. It is the best all around boat. It has just as much storage in the stern as XP10. It is also well suited for working your way up to harder whitewater.

The Mamba Is also a ton easier to roll.

If your athletic and really wanting to get into whitewater, just start with a playboat and start racking up experience points so you can level up quicker.
