March 5-6 Fourche Creek Little Rock

Post by Lupe » Fri Mar 04, 2016 2:33 pm

The Arkansas Canoe Club is helping clean Fourche Creek but by the scheduled 3/12 clean up date, we expect the creek to be in flood stage if even half of the predicted rain falls next week.

If you can spare even just a couple of hours anytime this weekend, Saturday or Sunday, please come out to Fourche Creek. You can bring a boat or just walk in. 90% of what we want to get is easiest to get on land, but there are some areas that will help to have a boat, too.

For more details see the event listing on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/events/1582682962054961/

We'll meet at 10am on Saturday at N34.7082 W92.3443. If you arrive after 10am, walk or boat to our clean up location at N34.7086 W92.3367 (just copy and paste these coordinates into Google maps). We expect to be on the creek until at least 5pm on Saturday. Final times are TBD for Sunday. Post or PM us thru FACEBOOK if you want to come and need further info.

Note: if you are launching a boat - best to park on NW corner of where University crosses Fourche. If you are walking into the site - best to park on the SW corner instead as you can walk all the way in along the south bank.

Finally, helping us clean this section will help us with the launch of a new project where we are going to document via time lapse photos how quickly the trash re-accumulates. This time lapse photo series will help us to educate others and to lobby for more structural solutions that will keep the trash from entering the creek in the first place. Please come lend us a couple hours! We predict each volunteer can collect 4-5 contractor size bags of trash in just 2-2.5 hours!

Contests to find the creepiest baby or most unusual trash find! Bring a friend!
I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.
