Winter/Spring 2015/16 Wetland Touring Schedule

Post by DeBo » Sun Nov 01, 2015 11:50 am

Winter/Spring 2015/16 Wetland Touring Schedule
Arkansas Canoe Club

Hello swampers!! I am finally getting out a schedule of trips. These trips are open to all comers and all skill levels who wish to get outdoors in some beautiful places, see wildlife and ancient trees.

Pay close attention to this schedule. The following list of trips is subject to change due to weather or water levels. If weather is good but water levels are poor, the trip will reroute to a better location. We go in some pretty poor weather conditions but, if it is really too bad, we will cancel or reschedule. I also may be making adjustments to avoid conflicts with other club gatherings or to fine tune it due to some hunting events during the season, such as special permit hunts.

A week before each trip occurs I will post a brief description of the trip with meeting times, locations and any other directions. Post general comments or questions on this thread. Post specific questions or comments about the next upcoming trip on that trip thread as it is posted. On trips where we camp, those not wanting to spend the night my go only as a day trip.

November 14 Bayou Deview

November 27 Black Friday Cleanup Float Fourche Creek

December 6 Sunday Grassy Lake

Jan.1 2016 Little Maumelle-Happy Canoe Year Red Hot Cider Float

February 6 Wattensaw Bayou Float and Camp

March 20 Bayou Deview

March 26 Maddox Bay

April 3 Sunday Bayou Deview

April 26- H Lake Loop Float and Camp

May 14 Bayou Deview

Debbie,

This sounds like a great schedule of floats! If I can only attend one, It will be the New Year's Day float. The
Wattensaw float though will also be a great outing. I was so impressed with the forethought, planning, and work that went into the camp when I was there last to see what had been accomplished!

Best Regards
Jim

Bumping this up. Remember New Years and Wattensaw after that.

Looking forward to getting out and getting going again. Vertigo has had me shut down for too long, but experience and doctors are telling me now that lack of exercise only exacerbates the situation. I miss paddling and cycling and disc golf!

What area has the really large cedar trees? Do one of these areas have the largest cedar tree in the state?

Thanks!

Wattensaw Bayou has very large cypress trees, more so when the water is low and the lower portion of the trees is exposed.

I believe the largest cypress in the state is in the White River NWR in "southeast" Arkansas.

Hey folks - the Maddox Bay trip is actually scheduled for 3/26. Sorry for any confusion!

I deeply apologize for my negligence. I posted the changes to Facebook but didn't do it here.
The Maddox Bay float trip has been moved to March 26. The March 20 will be a trip to Bayou Deview in conjunction with the Arkansas Trails Symposium. We are meeting at Apple Lake in the WMA between Duvalls Bluff and Brinkley at 10am. This trip is open to members of the public with their own boats.

Please come! It will be beautiful! The water is high and there will be no portages.
