2/9 Cadron Icicle Tour **NEW DATE**

Post by Lupe » Thu Feb 06, 2014 8:45 pm

We'll do an icicle tour bridge to bridge (Pinnacle Springs to Hwy 65) on Saturday, 2/8. It will be cold (the word "icicle" in the title might have been a clue)! Cold water/weather gear is a must, and/or dry extra layers in a dry bag.

Meet 12 noon at Hwy 65. Since there are different schools of thought on what a "meeting time" means, I'll clarify that when I say meet at 12 noon, that means that's when I'll be there. If I was going to be there at 11:30, I would say meet at 11:30. So...see you at noon!

Please post if we should expect you. Feel free to post or PM me with any questions.

Cheers,
Heather aka Lupe

Hi there,

Doc's Earplugs are good - they have different sizes to fit. Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters has them for sure, not sure who else might carry them. If I can think of it I'll bring mine to show you. (I'm terrible about wearing them even though I should)

I know of three or four of us who will see you there!

Just a little update:

it's SNOWING! There were rumors it would snow, and it has indeed come to pass. And man have the roads gone to crap fast.

My thinking all along was our noon start would give enough time for the roads to clear, but I will re-evaluate in the morning. I'm coming from Little Rock and right now cars can barely get up the hill on one side of my house, only to slide helplessly down the other side. So! If the roads don't get better quick enough in the morning, we may consider postponing the trip to Sunday. Hopefully not, but stay tuned.

I'll confirm in the morning! Stay safe everyone!

The roads actually seem clear enough for the trip to be a "Go." We have 3 headed that way from Benton/Little Rock and expect to perhaps see a couple more at the bridge. Might need to assess the hill down to under the bridge and if we might be better off with cars left at the top of the hill! (Although I don't know if it snowed as much north as it did south).

Cheers

Re: 2/8 Cadron Icicle Tour POSTPONED!!!

Post by Lupe » Sat Feb 08, 2014 11:07 am

SORRY FOR THE LATE NOTICE BUT POSTPONED!

ROADS WAY WORSE IN LITTLE ROCK THAN I THOUGHT! apparently they treated the crap out of my road because of all the accidents last night, but 630 is still completely snow packed.

Happy - tried to call you but you didn't give enough phone digits!!!!

Sorry again for the late notice. If those from the north can make it okay, maybe you can still salvage the trip, but those of us coming from south are going to wait for better road conditions.

I don't know what to say except that usually my road is the last road to get cleared, but I guess because there were so many accidents and abandoned cars last night, for whatever reason the city worked the crap out of my street to get it clear. But as a result, I just assumed if my road was clear, then the rest of the major roads in Little Rock would be fine. Not so! 630 is still snow pack! Oops!

I think we have an even bigger group who intends to try this whole thing again tomorrow, Sunday. Tomorrow I'll be more careful before deciding that the roads are indeed "good to go"!!!

UPDATE:

Trip is now planned for Sunday, still noon meet time. I'm now turning trip duties over to Chris Handley, though, as work commitments are probably going to keep me from making it.

Chris and Cate still plan to be there at noon. Hopefully some others will join.

Also, FYI I heard a trip report from Grant (Happy Happy Happy) that he made it down the river today and there are NEW TREES DOWN in the creek, including one he said required a portage. So please be careful and stay on your toes. We'll hopefully assess the situation and get some more info to share with paddlers.
