Upper Upper Kali Gandaki

Helmet cam footage from our 2-day trip down the Upper Upper Kali Gandaki in Nepal. We put on around the town of Tatopani and paddled to Beni. Using Google Maps it looks like it was somewhere between 15-20 miles. The only real mention of this stretch in the "White Water Nepal" guidebook by Peter Knowles and Darren Clarkson-King is a short passage reading, "Further upstream, near Tatopani, the river at class 5 daunts those unaccustomed to steep gorges and heavy water, where rapids are difficult to read. Gorges swallow the unwary and jagged rocks await those who let concentration slip. From Ghoreshar the river appears to be mainly class 4." In my opinion it was CL 4-5, had several mandatory portages where the river went under landslides, and was an overall awesome trip. There are a few small towns that have tea houses where you can stay and eat, so minimal overnight gear is required. Traveling further upstream of Tatopani requires a permit.
