Ready and stoked to go!
Got a ducky booked for the old folks and, assuming the offer still holds, I'll be sticking them in a raft with Terry et. al. on the Ocoee.

For camping are people playing it by ear? or are people making reservations?
At least from Memorial Day, I'll bet camping at the Ocoee won't be a problem, but no idea on the Nanty.

I don't know about the campgrounds, but the Nantahala Inn is full up. I got the last room over a week ago. (I'm soft, I like a real bed to sleep on.) Saturday, between the Nanty and Ocoee runs, I've even gone step further (roomwise) and gotten a hotel in Murphy with a hot-tub. That way I can soak out any aches I may get on the Nanty before trying a first trip down the Ocoee.

David, what's your room number and we'll show up with beer and take a dip in the hot tub... 8)

See you on the river!

Nice...I'm staying in Basecamp for a whopping $16 a night. It wasn't too bad in March with the heaters. It may be miserable with nothing but a couple oscillating fans to cool the place this time. I'm definitely looking forward to the restaurants and pub though! :D

Zach,

At this point we are still planning on heading that way. Unless Fay dumps a bunch of water in Arkansas next Wed & Thurs. Then we would stay a little closer to home. We are planning on being on the Nat on Friday and the Ocoee Sat and Sun.

The offer is still good for your folks. Do they have any rafting expeirence?

I hear that, I'll be hard pressed to leave the state myself if everything here starts rolling.

Not particularly, but they've canoed in NW Arkansas for probably 30+ years. Nothing too serious, but they at least know how to use a paddle and hitting rocks doesn't bother them.

I just stayed at NOC base camp 10 days ago, and the temp in them at night was comfy. I am so jeolous and want to go w/ ya'll! The Nanny and the Ocoee are both a blast.
Hey Zach, I love my new paddle-now I know your phone number forever

Glad you are liking the paddle....I forgot the name and number were on there until I pulled it out to bring it to you (I went through a period of trying to lose things for a while there, I still try pretty hard, but not with the same gusto I used to).
I started to scrape off the name and digits with a spoon when I pulled it out of the shed but realized pretty quickly that wasn't going to work (though I'll be sure to pass along any calls I get about a lost paddle  ).

I'm watching the Nanty for the same reason. I didn't paddle it in March, because all of the rain while I was there. It got really big and pushy by the end of the week. It was like a completely different river. Although another run down Big Laurel Creek wouldn't suck. :D

Scott, are you going to be on Section IV all weekend? Let me know! I may join you if it holds above 1.5 ft. Sorry I haven't been available much by phone...work is killer right now!
