Opening of the White water park in Siloam Springs

The city has been hard at work this week and has most things straightened out and ready to open at the Siloam Springs Kayak park.
All along I have been offering for us to help out but most of the work involved large equipment.
Now they are down to the details and would like us to help out.
Jon Boles, city parks supervisor, has asked for us to turn out this Sunday (6/25) around 2 pm
to help with a few of the final details. This will be shovel, rake and weed eater stuff. I have the tools necessary except for maybe one or two weedeaters. If someone can post up for those so the rest of us don't have to bring them that would be great. Jon is
estimating 1 to 2 hrs work for 5 or 6 folks. So more would make for a even shorter work day.
This is a bring your boat, work a bit and paddle tuber free the rest of the day kind of thing.
The Northwest Chapter voted to adopt the park as partners and they have never called on us to
help out with any clean up after floods. This one was one for the record books and it would be
great if we show them what we can do as a group.
Thanks for your patience on this project.

I'm hoping something I have planned falls through, and if so will be there Sunday. Anxious to see the park open. Surprised it hasn't already since I've seen folks out there every day, boating and tubing, just simply with the inconvenience of a locked gate. Surprised they'd wait over a few tall weeds and disheveled dirt. Still, great to hear. Thank YOU for keeping everybody informed! :kayak:

I will be there with a weedeater, a strong back, and a weak mind.

I received a call from the park super. As far as he is concerned the park is ready to open. They got busy and cleaned, mowed and straighten up all the park property, So there is little to be done by us. City administrations are funny in the way they work. Anyway, come out Sunday and paddle and celebrate summer at the only wave running. The city workers are not allowed in the river by insurance. So I will bring my chain saw and we can work on the wood that has washed up by some of the structures. I believe that is all that needs to be done. SYOTW....

Why is it that events rarely seem to go as planned when government is involved?
The park was ready to open Friday (6/22), Jon said "no, there is still some wood in the river and
the folks from the ACC said they would work to get it out. They have done work here
before and we want to give them a private day at the park."
Well by the time Jon got to the park to open it around noon, someone had rolled the
boulder and goobtubers were flooding in.
With no rule signs left after the last time the river overflowed, there was little to be done.
So with only the power to advise, Jon walked around and told people about rule infractions.
The most common being open flames or bar-b-q's. I noticed that several groups left after
learning they couldn't grill n chill.....
Just a reminder, if you want to cook there, get a free permit from the city beforehand.
the associated city ordnance ticket runs $500, or about half the cost of a new boat. (Dang)
Any way, everyone involved was very appreciative of the turn out by the ACC,
The park is now open from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset.
Thanks again for everything including your patience....
