Best Tandem Whitewater Canoe

Post by BlueHoleArkansas » Sun Jun 19, 2016 1:52 pm

Hi, my father has kindly offered to buy me a canoe as a college graduation gift.
I'm interested in getting a whitewater tandem canoe that can be also soloed as well but I'm also considering just a solo whitewater canoe
Mainly riding class 2-3 but also class 1 rivers.
I'm a big fan of the Blue Hole OCA model but I have also been looking at the Mad River Explorer.
Do you guys have any recommendations any type of canoe that would fit me best?
And If any of you have one for sell I would also love to hear about it.
Thanks.

If you can find a Dagger/Mad River Legend, that would be high on my list. Maybe a Nova Craft Prospector or Moisie? They got a new material called Tuff Stuff you might look in to it.

You're looking for a type of boat that is hard to find used. Two Brothers Arkota is an awesome boat for what you are looking for but hard to find. Moise is also a good boat but if I was looking for a new boat, I personally would get in line for an Esquif Pocket Canyon or Canyon depending on what is new with the T Formex material.

Sounds like you need more then one boat.

What you are asking for in a boat is like asking for in a car that can do 0-60 under 4 seconds, has 4WD off road capabilities, and can pull a trailer.

Find the boat that you will use most often, whether class I, tandem, or class II/III and worry about loading your quiver later down the line. Almost every boat can be used for something it wasn't designed for occasionally. If you do more camping with a partner on the Buffalo or similar then get a tandem, or if you do more whitewater by yourself get a solo whitewater boat.

i would highly suggest checking with Jeremy at OOO and finding out when he might have an Esquif Pocket Canyon. Esquif is now making them out of T-Formex which is supposed to be the new replacement material for royalex.

You can also see promotional videos of the Pocket Canyon on youtube. The videos show the royalex boat but the the new T-Formex hull is the same lines. :canoe:

I think my budget is probably going to be something in the used price range.
I keep hearing mad river or dagger legend.
Anybody have experience with this model or know where one for sale might be?
