Northwest chapter winter pool sessions (1/16, 2/20, 3/26)

Post by tracer » Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:17 pm

Winter pool session dates at the Jones center are set. They are
January 16,
February 20,
March 26
all times are from 9am-11:30am. The entrance is the west side entrance by the playground. There is a gate and stairs that will lead down to the pool area. The Jones center has asked that I reiterate the need to make sure we clean out our boats inside and out before we enter the pool. They have a hose for us to use. Also asked us to please make sure there is a walking path to the party rooms while we are there as well.

Does anybody have an extra boat I could practice rolling in?

Thanks,

John

What kind of boat, canoe or kayak? What is your size?

My wife's old kayak would be too small for you.

I will say there are usually a lot of people there and a lot of extra boats laying around. If you don't get a response on this message board you can just show up and bring what gear you have (life jacket, helmet, paddle, etc...) and you can probably find a boat to borrow.

John, I can bring my Liquid Logic Flying Squirrel 85 that you're welcome to borrow. It's in your weight range, but depending on your legs, you may more be matched with the 95. https://www.liquidlogickayaks.com/product/LRFS8515.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I can also bring an XL cockpit sized skirt with a large tunnel that fits the boat and will most likely fit your waist. I'm sure there'll be paddles you can borrow. As Kristian said, whatever you can bring will help. Let me know if you're interested.

For a first timer, John looked good in the Flying Squirrel. Curtis, thanks for helping a fellow paddler out.

John was awesome and thanks to instructions from Rob, Tom and Tracy and pointers from others, he learned to roll on his first time out. He's going to be a great paddler and with his background in stream restoration and environmental science, he'll be making great contributions for the club.

Big Thanks to Curtis for being so helpful and lending me his boat and gear! Also, thanks to everyone who came out to help, especially Rob and Tom for helping me get my roll!

Cheers and see you next time!

Last pool session they kicked us out at 11:00 am, and said that we actually had the pool reserved from 8:30 am - 11 am (instead of the 9 am - 11:30 am listed here). Since that's not the times we were told, I asked about the next session, as well. They said they have the next one down for 8:30 am - 11 am. If this is correct, you might want to update the times, so that there's no confusion. If it's not correct, you should probably get in touch with them before March 26th. Thanks.
