2015 SurfnTurf, July 25, Rockport Ledge/Porterfields

Post by Tim Eubanks » Thu Jun 25, 2015 1:33 pm

Early notice so you can put it on your calendar!

Central Chapter will grill burgers and hot dogs and provide buns, plates, etc. You bring the rest, sides, etc, your beverage of choice. That means pot luck!
Gate will be open about 9:30, first batch of burgers/dogs should be ready about 11 for those who want to run up to Remmel to catch the gates opening.
There are usually a couple of loosely organized downriver floats and of course there's lots of play at the ledge. There will also be a Hometown Throw down that afternoon for you to show your stuff or watch others tear up the wave.
Come on out and get your mid-summer paddle on. The water is always cool!

We will set up on the Porterfields property which is on the west side of the river (river right), across from the Rockport ledge. Gate will close around 6 or whenever Jim Krueger says.

I have tables. I may still be at scout camp but I can arrange for the tables to be at Rockport.

Good Morning,

I've not been on this river. Is it safe for a novice using a SOT ?

Regards,
Brian

Brian,

This section is fine for novices. Come on up or down whichever the case for you is. Look forward to meeting you.

Tim,

I hope you all have a great time, just the mention of Wisconsin makes me think of the years my father was stationed at Ft. Snelling, Mn. from 1963 to 65. We lived in Richfield, a suburb of Minneapolis, and the summers were so pleasant, especially this time of year when it was pretty warm and humid back home in Arkansas. Have fun, and thank you for your work over the years! We'll see you later in the summer maybe on a Little Missouri R. trip over at Murfreesboro hopefully.

Best Regards
Jim

All,

Forecast is for serious heat, 101 F, this Saturday and Sunday in Malvern. So I encourage everyone to bring plenty of water and a gatorade or two. Bring more than you need cause someone else might not bring enough. Looking forward to some time on the water with old friends and hopefully new ones too.

Good advice Chris! It will be just the best day as always, a good lunch, and good fellowship at Porterfield's, I also recommend plenty of cold drinks for lunch, and for later on, on the river. It will indeed be hot as the hinges.

P.S. I think all of the down-river floaters should be back by 4:00 to 5PM at the latest to retrieve their cars, pot-luck dishes, chairs, tables, etc. on the Porterfield's side. To our other friends, who may just wish to stay to surf and play at the Ledge after lunch during the afternoon ,and maybe even into the evening :poke2: , I would only ask that you go ahead and reposition your vehicles to the other side sometime after lunch at your convenience. I will probably need to lock the gate over at Porterfield's by 6PM, or before if possible.
Best Regards
Jim

Richard,
I'm sorry to get back with your question so late in the day. In the past there have indeed been several folks who made an early float as a group. Even then, I don't know if it was posted or not. I do think that in some years, the release began about 9Am, tomorrow it is forecast on the Entergy site to begin about 10AM. Maybe others interested in an earlier float will post later this evening. We will certainly have several impromptu float groups forming, and heading-up after lunch when it warms up nicely :poke2:

Best Regards
Jim

What time does the gate open in the morning - I am going to help set up tables, tear down, etc. again.

I am bringing a table and some chairs... please bring a table if you have one - lots of food to put out if like the past couple of years.

Post, text or call the opening time. I want to be there around the time it opens up.
