Paddler's Wilderness First Aid course Jan 31 - Feb 1 NWA

Post by OzarkTom » Tue Jan 13, 2015 3:45 pm

Hi Folks, here is something that you aren't going to need that drysuit for!

We are offering our 2 day 20+hr Paddler's Wilderness First Aid course Jan 31- Feb 1 in Winslow AR at the Old Winslow High School on US 71. For those not familiar, Winslow is about 25 minutes south of Fayetteville.

This 2 day course is non-stop action packed with hands on training and scenarios. We focus on the most common back-country injuries and give you the opportunity to actually practice just about everything you learn in the program. If you like lecture and powerpoint this is NOT the class for you....

As you see in trip reports on our message board, it doesn't take long for a day trip to turn into a lot more than you bargained for! We teach proven, easy to remember techniques to deal with just about anything you might encounter, from fractures to anaphylaxis. This course will cover all our standard syllabus as well as additional skills for paddlers.

The cost of the course is 125.00 which includes your textbook and all materials.

If you are coming from out of town there are numerous lodging opportunities nearby, and if you are on a tight budget (or would just rather hang out around the fire), you can stay for free at our location, which is only a few minutes from the school.

For more information or to register, call me at 479-595-1655 or email SwiftwaterRescue@gmail.com

Cheers!

Highly recommended. I did an update and my son took it for the first time. Fun and very thorough. This is not just a class that someone should take for extra knowledge, this is an absolute must for anyone that participates in activities other than couch surfing. Wilderness first aid is emergency treatment given when an hour or more from a hospital. How many of you do activities that is in that criteria. That's 1 hour from time if injury. Can you evacuate, get to your car, drive through inclement weather and make it to a hospital in an hour from say the Mulberry, Tot, Richland, Spring? What about from your home during an ice storm or other natural disaster. Sign up for the next one. It may save your life. It may save mine!!
