I came, I saw, I con....wait, I didn't exactly conquer a roll. But thanks to some good instruction (thanks, Dave) I made progress. I really appreciate the ACC and Jones Ctr hosting these winter roll sessions. It was a little crowded today, but I guess that's a testament to success. Maybe Jones Ctr can open an additional lane or two???

Thanks to the volunteer instructors who gave of their time to work one-on-one with those who are learning to roll. Thank you, Rob for working with me and others. And thank you to the others who spent time patiently breaking down the roll to make it understandable and possible.

In case it was missed, on page 6B of the Sunday January 18th 2015 edition of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette newspaper, below the fold on the left hand side is a 3"tall by 4 column wide picture of David Jacobs, a University of Arkansas sophomore from Russelville, rolling his kayak at the NW chapter's roll practice at the Jones Center pool this past Saturday January 17th, 2015, taken by DG staff photographer Jason Ivestor.

I will mail that page of the paper to David if anyone knows his mailing address. I tried looking for it in the members listing, but he may not be a member or it could be that he has a board name other than his own name, or I missed it when I looked in the 10 pages of "D"'s and the 15 pages of "J"'s. It would be nice if there was an easier way of looking for a member. I might try asking my chapter president at the next meeting, but I do not know when I will be able to attend a meeting. I am still using a walker and am on restriction from driving, paddleing, roll sessions, or putting any weight on my right foot due to the broken tibia incurred when they installed my 2nd total knee replacement, but I go in for another review and set of X-rays this Wednesday.

Enjoyed helping some folks with their roll today. Here are a few links/posts/videos that I have found very helpful over the years:

Great for learning the roll:

Thanks so much to the ACC for arranging these roll sessions!! What a thrill to see my wife go from total fear & panic over being under water [first session]...to bringing up her Zen with a hip snap and a slight paddle assist [last Saturday]!! If the boat hadn't been filling up with water so fast, she'd have got it in this session. We're looking for a spray skirt that fits her now. Too bad we're out of sessions: She's all gung-ho now!

Thanks to all the trainers over the weeks that gave their time and advice.
