Shores Lake Closure at Spirits Creek

Post by Diane H » Tue May 13, 2014 12:58 pm

FYI - Looks like HWY 215 (Shores Lake Road) is closed at Spirits Creek due to bridge damage ... not sure where they have it blocked off at. Someone please comment if you have more information.

Thanks!

Just the bridge itself is closed. There is about a 2' circumference whole on the east side of the bridge. My guess is that it is from all the dump trucks removing sediment from Shores Lake two weeks ago.

After canoe school I drove around the barricades to get home, and on this past Sunday I drove around the barricades to get to Campbell's access. I'm sure one day I will go there and the bridge will either be gone or they will be doing construction on it and I can't get by. Until then I will keep pressing my luck.

Yep just the bridge. I drove around the barricades too during WW School weekend. I saw the hole in the bridge but it is easily avoidable. The road was also freshly graveled.

Just run Spirits to Mill, if it is in fact a high water float trip and the bridge is not passable. Set shuttle first at Mill, and you could always access at Hurricane creek if need be.

When I was at Turner Bend last Saturday visiting with Brad Wimberly, he got a phone call from a Forest Service Ranger that the Ranger had written $220 tickets to two of Turner Bend employees for driving around the barricades and going over the bridge. The Ranger said that he not only saw them go around the barricades, but that he also had the violation on video. I saw a short article in the Times Record today in Fort Smith about the road closure, but the article said nothing about fines for going around the barricades. Larry
