Fishers Ford 2/22

Post by Lemon » Fri Feb 21, 2014 10:37 am

Me and another SUP paddler are going to be headed down to Fishers Ford this weekend. Anyone know what the current level is like for SUP? I have never been to the park.

If its too low I might be looking for recommendations of what might be surfable nearby.

The Ford will likely be the best SUP wave around. If nothing else, it will certainly be an excellent place to practice SUP ferrying/eddying out. But, again, the ford will be worth your time.

Lemon,

Now that I caught a free minute, more info for you:

1. The Ford can be a little difficult to find. When in doubt, just look at the ozark creek info directions and do what it says.
2. The top wave is a proper wave- no hole, so I would think it is perfect for SUPing. I don't have SUP knowledge, but I would think that long, chill rides are possible. They certainly are in boats.
3. There is a second feature that hasn't seen much SUP time. I'd like to know how SUP friendly it is.
4. Try to park so that you're not blocking any road/river access.
5. We're trying our best to stay on the locals' good sides, so please remember that when you're down there. Chat 'em up if you see anybody driving by on a 4 wheeler.
6. It's a hoot. See you out there.

Mgood is spot on with description.

The guy who designed most of the park had a SUP the first
day we released water. It worked great and looked fun on the top wave.
At that time the bottom wave still had construction debris in it
so it was never tried.
The directions from the OWP are the shortest however an alternate
route is about a mile longer but a lot less dirt road. Here are
directions from the turn off of South 540 and Hwy. 16.

I changed the lower level for the Ford on the OWP to 2.1 to try to reflect what I'm hearing is a good threshold. If anyone has feedback on optimal/high level thresholds when the levels rise this spring, IM or email me to let me know. Also, the description on the board is way out of date, so new info for that once it's known would be good.

Can't wait to come try out the new waves!
