7.3 right now and rising rapidly. I'm guessing over 6 at 8 am.

10 pm and Langley has spiked to 8.7!!!
Looks like a late day Saturday or Sunday float for me to go.
Bet there's some class three plus maybe even a four out there now?

I'll be leaving Little Rock about 8:00 a.m. and heading to Langley take-out. Should be there about 10:00 and need to join up with some other paddlers.

We will probably miss you. We are meeting at the takeout at 9. A few people have to get home earlier. It's dropping but still at a great level now.

The gage was reading 4.92 when Steve and I launched. It turned out that was less water than I expected from past experience, making the run a very technical rock dodging experience. It was tough, in my opinion. It would be much easier with a little more water, say 5.2 to 5.5. Lots of people were enjoying the Albert Pike area; the memorial to the flood victims that has been erected there is a very sad sight. The river was truly beautiful.

It really depends on how fast it's falling. I think it's about 2 hours behind when you put on. See what it was when you took out for the best assessment IMO. Looking at these 2 graphs, putting on at 5.0 would be 2 different experiences.

Last Saturday was a blast. I've done it both high and lower and I would not say one is easier than the other. The higher level is nonstop paddling and solid class III with a few sticky holes to avoid. On the other hand, I found the lower level to be more technical, with lots of boulder dodging, lots of eddy hopping, and some decent surfing. Several great places to work on strong current ferrying. The rapids were mostly class II and II (+) with maybe one III (by Arkansas standards). The water clarity at the lower level was just pristine and reminded me of the snowmelt streams out west. I know people thought we were crazy for not going to the Tot, but for some of us, the Lil Mo was a great trip to really work on our skills for bigger water without having to worry about a bruising swim. Although there may have been one who got a bit bruised. Here are a few pics.
