Mulberry Cemetery to Mill Cr. Sunday 02/10
Mulberry Cemetery to Mill Cr. Sunday 02/10
We've got a crew for a chill float from Cemetery to Mill Cr. today.
We're meeting up at Mill Cr confluence/ take out at 1030 am. It's a few miles up 215 off I-40, turn right on Plymouth Rd.... it's not really a road but a holey dirt trail. But it's not far off 215.

Loaded up, anybody meeting up in Fayetteville?
Re: Mulberry Cemetery to Mill Cr. Sunday 02/10
Longer pools, bigger drops. The best way that I can explain it is that it is just like the Mulberry, only lower.

They mean campbell's cemetery... about 10 miles downstream of the Rt 23 (Pig Route). The forest road is on the north side of the river so it is the first road north of the Turner Bend Bridge.
If you do not mind a hike with your boat..... you can place your boat at the intersection of the road leading down to the river and the main forest service. Then hike up the trail that runs parallel to the forest road for about half mile to access the river. This will allow one to run the S turn rapid above Hamm's, Hamm's Fall, then S turn rapid below Hamm's and then the rapid at Campbell's. Hamm's has a great surf feature at lower levels. The S turn below Hamm's has an awesome wave at high levels. Campbell's is surf city when the Mulberry is above 5 feet. The top wave at Campbell;' is surfable down to about 2.5 feet. But it is best when the river is big. See comments on this section at the American Whitewater site. http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/2584/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
The run out at the bottom of campbell's is always a great place to practice rolls in moving water. Usually there are not rocks or trees under the water to get caught on.
Campbell's is one of my feature spot.
For awhile I would hike with my boat up to Hamm's. Later I fund it was easier to access from the route described at the beginning.

Hell yeah, the river kept getting bigger and bigger as the day went on. 15+ eagles at one time was pretty cool too.
65+ in Feb, it is spring time. Get out and enjoy.

15 eagles? That's awesome!
How long did it take to float that section? Level was over 3', right?

Re: Mulberry Cemetery to Mill Cr. Sunday 02/10
It was about 2.5 and green when we started, and most likely around 3' and turning brown when we took off. With an hour+ stopping for lunch, surfing, and resting it took us about 5 hours to run.
There were eagles all day, but they were concentrated in the last 2 miles.

forgot to mention another hazard on this stretch to be aware of. We heard and saw a large splash very close to a kayak and saw an eagle directly overhead flying away. not sure what the ammo was but wear your helmet!
