Cadron noon 12/26
Mike and I are taking his son on his maiden voyage of the Cadron. I will be in my Diesel, Brian will be in Mike's inflatable, and Mike and Pat C. will R-2 her new 9-foot Star bucket boat.
We're meeting under the bridge at noon.

Can you believe I haven't been in any whitewater since Nantahala.
Hitting the Cadron tomorrow sounds great. I'll see if I can talk the boys into coming too.

Hartwick Mill Bridge to CCO was beautiful yesterday. Frisky water. Crumbling ice formations. Open vistas. And not a soul in sight.
The Cadron should be just delightful today -- even a little rain won't damper 70 degree weather in December.
P.S. The Cadron Kids refurnished Bertha Bluff Geocache -- and placed a new one atop Devil's Chimney on Cove Creek.

Re: Cadron noon 12/26
What a freakishly warm day on the Cadron! Nice level, nice company, nice weather....
NEW HAZARD WARNING!!!!
We noticed several places along the river where there were coils and coils of cables and seismic testing equipment. These cables are not across the river (which we have also seen in the past), but in spots that we could see they were not more than 10 feet away from the river along the bank. If we get the kind of heavy rain that is forecast for tonight and tomorrow, all this stuff sitting right NEXT to the river is going to end up IN the river if the Cardon rises and spikes. We're talking about 50 yard coils of cable that once washed into the river, could get tangled anywhere and lurk just beneath the water surface. These are black cables, so you're not going to see this stuff if it's in the river. This happens to be the Cadron, but the same scenario could probably be on any or every river throughout the state. If you see lots of orange survey tape (although where that's placed, it could get washed away too), beware of what could be in the water!
These companies need to realize that these rivers rise after heavy rains and they cannot leave all this stuff mere feet from the river unattended. You would think they wouldn't want to lose their little seismic testing boxes (surely those things aren't cheap), if nothing else.
Anyway - we might have all kinds of water to paddle tomorrow or Sunday, but everyone needs to keep their eyes out if you see the orange survey tape that is the tell tale sign of seismic testing in the area. Be careful out there!

I've heard that into every life a little of it must fall,
but you'll never catch me complaining about too much of that southern rain.
