Re: Ozark Creeks Wood Status
I have hiked both Smith Creek and Broadwater Hollow recently. Smith Creek is well below ice line and the road in and path out are clear. Smith creek below the upper shut-in has been gouged out and rearranged by high water events in the near past. We're frequent hikers in this area. Broadwater Hollow...

I've run Woods Fork from Busic down to Walnut Shade on Bull Creek years ago. Best take your fishing pole for this one.

Re: Cave Mt. Road
You couldn't be in a better place for hiking. Try Dug Hollow. Park at Cave Mountain Cemetery. Walk back down the hill (on the road)to a culvert and take off down the creek. Dug Hollow is on the opposite side of the road from the cemetery. Lower Fork and Whitaker Creeks are the watersheds below Hawks...

Terry, Sorry for the slow reply, I couldn't get logged in to the message board this weekend. All this banter about Roark is just tongue in cheek. No offense intended to the O'Reilly's. You would not have to look much farther than the Nanatahala or Ocoee to realize it is probably financially feasible...

Re: Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, MO boaters - bored? here ya go...
Yeah, boaters have all the great ideas and none of the money. Pump 500+ cfs down Roark and it will beat anything at 6 flags. If you've ever run Roark in low flood you'll know what I mean. So, who knows the O'Reilly's (of O'Reilly Auto and Dynamic Earth)? I had some friends who told me to go propose ...

You would think with all the water parks in Branson "they" would have built a pipe from Taneycomo to the charcoal plant put in on Roark Creek. Roark Creek has all the features we adore.

Re: bear creek near Ohmaha
Cowper, I'll follow your suggestion. I'll double check the roads on my gazeeter. I first ran Bear with David Harris (I believe thats right) and the Harrison, AR boys around 25-30 years ago. Back then there were no roads signs or gauges or doppler rader, just drive and pray. Hit it at 2' first try. I...

Re: bear creek near Ohmaha
Great surfing at the right levels. Best in the Ozarks in my opinion. The put-in is on Hiway 14 east of Omaha (around 10 miles from old 65). To get to the take out go west on 14 to the top of the hill turn right and follow to Bull Shoals Reservoir. I can't remember the road name, so a gazeeter would ...

Re: Is the upper Buffalo big enough for a small raft?
Hmmmm...I wonder if the day will come when BOC sees the economic opportunity in rafting Hailstone? Could Dixon Ford look like Ponca did this weekend? Food for thought.

Re: Is the upper Buffalo big enough for a small raft?
A 14' raft is mighty big for creekin' My wife and I paddle a 10' Sotar SL Elite which is more suitable for creeks. We've used it on the Boxley run in high water to take inexperienced friends and family out for a little whitewater. I still prefer hard boats for creeks. Time to buy another boat, you c...

Re: Is the upper Buffalo big enough for a small raft?
I have friends who've run Hailstone in Puma'a and Super Pumas. Not my boat of choice for this run, and I do own a raft. They work good on Hurricane (Newton-Pope) above 7' one Piney USGS. You're probably going to want at least 1' over at Ponca and no matter how small your raft it won't fit well with ...

Re: Long creek in taney county mo
To answer Russell's question. The hiway 14 bridge level would start at 1/2 foot up to 2 feet for good surfing. Add 2.2 feet to the USGS internet gauge or 2' bridge=4.2' internet. As Bull Shoals lake rises above power pool (654') it will start backing up Bear Creek. At about 570' I won't bother with ...

Re: Long creek in taney county mo
Terry, just drive another 15 minutes over to Forsyth and Casey Rd. at Swan Creek. The 1 mile of play parrallels the road. This falls within the inundation corridor of Bull Shoals Lake. If Bull Shoals is 30+ feet over power pool (elevation 654 ft.) Then this starts pooling up. Same problem as Bear Cr...

Re: Long creek in taney county mo
I've never figured out the put in for Turkey Creek, so if someone knows the put-in road please post. I've had a lot of experience with Cane Creek over the years, the window of opportunity is about 1/2 day. You're taking a chance anytime you go there. Years ago a local would tell us what was up and d...
