Re: MERRY CHRISTMAS

So true of Cowper in so many ways. Whether it's to lend a dry-top so that my son could float the Cadron OR to pull a soaked novice to dry land OR to trim a strainer (within guidelines) to prevent a nasty spill from a future floater OR to give words of comfort...he's always there. The same holds true...

Re: What gear did you get for Christmas?

You know you've been bitten by the paddling bug when your favorite article of clothing received for Christmas is an NRS Terraprene jacket. Hubby also bought some NRS coolers that will fit in my hatch.
Merry Christmas!!

Re: Helmet with face protection?

Steve, Your post above really gives us newbies like myself something to think about as well as some comfort. Have you ever just really loved something but been lousy at it? That's kayaking for me. At my current ability, I am illiterate at reading the river, but I yearn to learn with a passion. The p...

A HUGE THANK YOU

Well, "swimming" once is just bad luck perhaps, but "swimming" twice is simply humiliating. As I ventured into this journey, I just kept praying that my kids wouldn't accidentally dump in such cold water. My prayers were answered. Maybe I should have included myself in tho...

Re: Cadron or Lower richland friday Dec 23

Cowper, Thanks so much for your informative response. As a newbie, it's good to have experienced paddlers for guidance. All sounds good with one major exception. Caitlin and I have double-tunneled dry-tops, but we just haven't put down the money for Noah's yet. At this point, he only has a wetsuit. ...

Re: Cadron or Lower richland friday Dec 23

Cowper (or others that know my son), I paddled this stretch once last Spring with a small group. I don't recall what the water level at the time was, and I didn't bring Noah because he hadn't floated his XP9 much yet. Do you think this stretch would be a good choice for him at the current water leve...

Hey now...let's not leave out us XP9s in all this, shall we? I will soon be on Christmas break and may actually get to float sometime/somewhere.

Re: Perception Dancer

HI! It's good to see others getting their children "on board" with kayaking. My nine-year-old son loves it, and my fourteen-year-old daughter enjoys it occasionally. As for the paddle, you can get a good starter paddle from Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters when you go for the sprayskirt. We hav...

Re: Sunday or Monday float? (Family style Not Spring)

Sounds great! See all of you at the ledge at 12:30. Jim, I'm so glad you're joining us as well. Chris, do you have everything you need for Hannah's friend? If you are missing something, post within the next couple hours and I will see if we have a spare.

Re: Sunday or Monday float? (Family style Not Spring)

Chris, I went to the website you showed. Based on the data, it looked to me like the resease was probably around 2:00. Do we want to meet at the ledge around 1:00 and then that will give us plenty of time to shuttle and prepare for launch? Edgar, Hey! Great to hear that you are floating too. I was k...

Re: Sunday or Monday float? (Family style Not Spring)

Chris, Remmel to Rockport on Monday would be absolutely perfect! Noah definitely wants to go, and Caitlin may/may not depending on her homework load. What time are you planning to meet at the ledge? Please post again when you are "for sure going". 'Can't wait to meet up again with some fam...

Re: New to solo paddling.

Here's just a little more information to keep you thinking. I am a 5'4" female that had been renting kayaks for about 2 years. I spent about half of that time researching which kayaks would be best for myself and my two kids. At Christmastime, we purchased 3 Liquid Logic Remix XP 9s and absolut...

Re: Sunday or Monday float? (Family style Not Spring)

Thanks so much for the offer, but I am too far away to get there (and packed up) by that time. Today is just too full. That's why I was looking for Sunday or Monday. Thanks anyway!

Sunday or Monday float? (Family style Not Spring)

Hey, Noah is begging to go float somewhere this weekend. I am looking for a one day float somewhere. Is Rockport to Remmel still running or is Tyler Bend to Gilbert still floatable? With a quick holiday, we can steal the time to get out for one day, but most people seem to be heading to the Spring. ...

Re: Surf & Turf 2011 (Rockport, July 30)

This event sounds like a blast! What time does this gathering usually start? Also, I can find my way to "the ledge", but how do you enter on "the Porterfield side"? Wayne is thinking about coming along as well, but he doesn't choose to paddle. Are there usually some people who ju...
