Re: Stop the Bentoville dam project

Also, please know that the City of Bentonville wants to pay for their dam re-construction project with the majority of the funds coming from FEMA and the State of Arkansas (ADEM). At the City's last budget meeting the City reported to having about 9 million dollars in their coffers, but they don't w...

Re: Stop the Bentoville dam project

Thank you Kristian and Cory. I'll fix the typo and I noticed a few punctuation edits. And, if there is anything else that anyone feels should be in this letter, please post to this thread.

LAST DAY FOR COMMENTS - 3/20 Stop the Bentoville dam project

We are planning to send the below letter (with a some possible edits) to the Mayor of Bentonville and the Bentonville City Council. To show them there is significant interest in this issue and that we are serious, we would like to include as many email addresses as possible with this letter when we ...

Re: Sugar Creek Water Trail Restoration (HELP!)

Tom on LSC.JPG Tom on LSC.JPG We had a great meeting today with the Watershed Conservation Research Council in Fayetteville. Matt and Sandi are leaders in the movement for natural stream designs that use native plants to restore stream banks, instead of concrete or limestone boulders that inhibit p...

Re: Sugar Creek Water Trail Restoration (HELP!)

Thank you, Tom, John, Luke. It's a group effort when you are trying to restore a stream and remove a dam. I don't know if a dam has ever been removed before in the Ozarks (due to the efforts of a dedicated group of river lovers). I left a message at the WCRC and will be sending some pics by email. T...

Re: Sugar Creek Water Trail Restoration (HELP!)

John, Thank you! I will contact the WCRC tomorrow. I'm excited that Alderman Skaggs has requested a plan for stream restoration on Little Sugar Creek. It seems obvious that we needed a plan, but I wasn't sure when or if we'd actually get a strong supporter on the Council. We still have a long way to...

Re: Sugar Creek Water Trail Restoration (HELP!)

I have not talked to anyone at in Illinois Watershed, but it might not hurt. There are so many agencies and organizations that could probably lend support to this. Since Little Sugar Creek and Big Sugar Creek are in the Elk Watershed, a citizens group might be interested since dams are harmful to wa...

upstream after dam release.JPG This letter and pictures were sent to the City of Bentonville. It is intended to counter the "historical" importance of Lake Bella Vista and instead support the benefits of Little Sugar Creek. Recently, there was an extremely bad algae infestation that nearl...

How far upstream will we be putting in, or is this a downstream float to the Elk?

Re: Illinois River Incident - 6/17/2014

If there were blunt force trauma from rocks or debris, it seems like there would have been reporting on that from the coroner's office or police department. The same with lacerations or other types of wounds. I haven't read anything about that. I'm guessing there won't be any further investigation b...

Re: Illinois River Incident - 6/17/2014

Thank you, Charles. I think some details could help in preventing another tragedy, but PFD's would help more, and I'd donate to a fund to provide PFD's for visitors to the park. Given his swimming abilities, it is still curious, to me, that he went under and never resurfaced. I understand that we ma...

Re: Illinois River Incident - 6/17/2014

Something is missing in this sad saga. He was on the high school swim team. I saw a picture of him doing the butterfly stroke, which isn't easy. Competitive swimmers are especially adept in the water, even if it is moving. It doesn't make sense. First there were reports of a rope swing and then I he...
