Re: Cure for cold feet

The Hot Hands chemical packs require air to activate and operate, so they would work inside a dry suit but not otherwise. The HotSnapZ are sealed and reusable, so should do fine in wet conditions. The HotSnapZ packs, though, appear too large to go inside socks/boots but the Hot Hands take very littl...

Cure for cold feet

Went to OBU/HSU football game Saturday afternoon. Tried putting some Hot Hands warmers on top of my toes, between socks. Even though just wearing hiking shoes (no insulation), toes stayed warm and comfy for hours. I think next time I paddle in really cold temps, I'll try this for feet inside dry sui...

Re: Vote No on Ballot Issue One!

Now we have to be diligent in monitoring and communicating with whatever committee(s) are charged with reviewing agency regs. And those writing the regs will have to be prepared to make the case for the regs both to the committees) and to the broader electorate. Those who voted NO will need to commu...

Eskimo Zwo, skirts, helmets

Eskimo Zwo, bought for OBU kayak class in 2001. Still in great shape. Older play boat style. Two ProTec helmets, one small and one large. Two Eskimo skirts. Large cockpit, one small tunnel and one large tunnel. Four Harmony nylon skirts. Bought these for pool sessions. They won't fit extra large coc...

Re: Contact lenses & kayaking

Contacts since 1974. Hard, gas perm, now soft. Scuba, waterskiing, now kayaking. Never lost one while doing these activities. No issues with infection but always take out at night. Best to have a spare in first aid kit but I rarely do. Note to self!

Re: Here we go again ... Tot, anyone? (Sat. 8/9)?

Heading to 'tot shortly.

Good for a somewhat beginner paddler? Well, it's warm so multiple swims wouldn't be a hypothermia risk. Multiple long swims very likely. Would need a good crew willing to provide support.

Pentax Optio W80

I have a Pentax W80 I used for years, but this summer the screen broke or malfunctioned. It only shows about 1/4 on the left side. The rest gives the appearance of being cracked internally somewhere. Anyway, still takes good photos but is hard to frame, obviously. I have the battery for it, Pentax D...

Re: Recommended Nose Clip/Plug

Or make your own with a little coated clothesline wire and some tool dip. I make up a few dozen at a time (classes run through them) for pennies a piece. Cut a length of the coated wire (you'll have to experiment to find the length you like). Use needle nose pliers to make a small circle in each end...
