Re: First Timer

If you're not easily offended, the Elk River around Pineville/Noel, MO is still going good. You can go early and miss most of the party crowd.

The White River below Beaver dam is also a good option for the late summer.

Re: Kings River status

i've heard that people use the Ponca gage on the buffalo to determine if the kings is good from the Marble/Kingston Area...
If the upper buffalo is going then that section should be good.
Not sure how to gage the class 3/4 upper upper section of the kings...

Re: West Fork Wed. 5\13

it's always hard to tell with that gage since it's a ways down stream. this time it worked pretty well, but i usually just ask KRU.

but yeah, i think around 7' is perfect.

The Saline River in Saline County - http://www.salinerivercanoe.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not really any campgrounds close by, but several access points and multiple forks of the river make for a lot of different options. Good fishing too.

Tyler Bend Camping (weekends)

How hard is it to get a couple tent sites at Tyler Bend in the spring time?
Is it comparable to the upper campgrounds (when the river is floatable) where if you don't get there by 4pm on friday you're out of luck? wanting to go over there next month and will need two spots.

Re: HWY 16 Access on Illinois River (above SSWWP)

I've put in at that bridge before, on the west side. But it's steep and there's hardly any room to park. I'd suggest putting in at the park and floating down to the campground/ canoe rental place at Hwy 59. It's also a short float.
