Re: Rendezvous

If you want to know the dates for Rendezvous, see Roger's post near the top of this thread. He was correct... it is the second weekend AFTER Labor Day, NOT the second weekend in September. This makes it Sept. 18, 19 and 20 for this year.

Another great Rec School - thank you volunteers!!

We had a wonderful time on the Spring River this past weekend with Rec School. The instructors and other staff -- all volunteers -- did a fantastic job and worked themselves to death to make sure the students had a good experience, both on the water and driving shuttle. If you see these people, plea...

Re: Canoe School II

Laurie and I are taking our class to the Mulberry on Sunday as well. All six were able to make it. We're meeting early, early so we can get in some on land instruction as well. We'll probably be long gone from Turner Bend by the time you get there, but we may see you on the river.

Re: Rec Paddling School Questions...

Yes, adult beverages are both permitted and appropriate in the evenings, as long as it doesn't leave anyone too bleary-eyed to paddle on Sunday!

Re: Rec Paddling School Questions...

There are two bathhouses, and I use that term loosely! They are typical camp bathrooms with a shower and toilets, but you want to wear shower shoes for sure! They also have some port-a-potties.

Re: Rec. School Gear

You're on the right track with boat, paddle and PFD. You'll also need a helmet if you are in a whitewater kayak (as opposed to a rec kayak), or using thigh straps on your canoe. And if you are in either kind of kayak (as opposed to a canoe), you'll need a skirt. Sit-on-tops are not required to wear ...

Re: Rec Paddling School Questions...

Just checked with Riverside. They said the snackbar will be open on weekends, probably 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- but not certain of the time. It will be weekends only -- breakfast and hamburgers, etc.

Re: Rec Paddling School Questions...

Jaytee, Jim, Cowper and Lupe all gave good advice. To expound a little bit... Riverside has plenty of tent camping. A few of us get there on Thursday night and will save space so that all our group can camp togther. Just look for the Arkansas Canoe Club sign. For meals, you will eat breakfast at you...

Re: Instructor at Whitewater school?

Tim, Whitewater School is closed. But Rec School is still taking registrations. You learn the same material, but it's on the Spring River May 29-31 and the weather is warmer! Go here to find more information and register: http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&am...

Re: Instructor at Whitewater school?

Susan,

I guess you know not to believe anything Steve says, after all, he's an open boater (and a darn good one)!!

Btw, I sent you an e-mail on Friday with the rest of my class. Please let me know if you got it so I'll know I have the correct e-mail.

Thanks!!
