Re: Footwear
Luke: Obviously, my take on cold weather gear is a bit different from others' views, due to my geographic misfortune. Thus, take the Iowa difference into account regarding this opinion. My wife and I have gone through a number of Sealskins socks and gloves. IMHO, they are not worth the shipping cost...

Missouri and Arkansas Paddling Invite: Feb and Mar 2013
Folks: It is the time of year when we Yankees are already thinking about paddling down south this winter. We'll be staying at Boiling Springs Resort again on the Big Piney River near Licking MO from Feb 17 to Mar 17. We will paddle any river in range that has water: Big Piney River (MO) Current Jack...

Patrick:
Look in this forum: http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com/vie ... =2&t=22563" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kinda heavy and not a "modern" boat at all, but solid and the price is right.

Re: Touring Boats
FB: I have a good friend and great paddling companion up here in Iowa (Jim Jorgenson of Independence, IA) who has built a few of these. (2 Greenland boats. two different sizes of Baidarka and at least one other.) If you'd like, send me your email address and I'll let him know that you'd like to shar...

Re: Looking for a tandem/solo Canoe
Josh: Since I have owned many of the canoes that you mention, I'll list them in my preference order: 1) TB Arkota -- possibly the best all around 16' river canoe made today. NOT for those who cannot paddle a straight line. If I had to have just one canoe for tandem and solo paddling, this would be t...

Re: Dri-Ki Paddles
Folks: Have had similar experiences to those of "The Deuce." Rick and company are great folks, and you'll not find a better one-piece paddle anywhere. If you can handle the weight of an ash paddle and don't mind some maintenance, these paddles are the best buy in the USA. I'm expecting an ...

Re: Hole Saw FAIL
H: If nothing else works, as Forstner bit or even a ship drill will (at some expense) work well. BUT, with any kind of a piloted drill, make sure that the pilot drill (or point, in the case of the Forstner) doesn't get hot during the process. (A spray of water is not a bad idea.) Royalex components ...

John and Nancy: Call the guys at Two Brothers. They carry great replacement thwarts: all you'll need to do is cut it to size and drill the appropriate mounting holes. ...and they do not charge an arm and a leg... call: 479-418-9722 or see the website at: http://www.twobrotherscanoe.com/accessories.h...

Re: Canoe Paddle Recomendations?
I've had a chance to try couple of Dri-Ki's paddles, and, if you can handle the relatively heavy weight of the solid ash paddle, they are absolutely unbeatable. Their prices are right out of 1964, even considering shipping. http://dri-kiwoodworking.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);ret...

Re: Info on dam3 to hardy
Dan: Between the Bayou Access and Hardy, there are about 15 ledges ranging from 1 foot to 3 foot drops, one mandatory portage at a low-water bridge, and the High Falls, which is a pretty legitimate 4 to 5 foot drop. Many of the ledges do have "work arounds." but some do not. The High Falls...
