Re: Little Buffalo River

Tom Kennon might eventually run across this and give us a more specific insight into why some rivers were included, while others were not. I think it simply boils down to so many rivers, so few days... he put together a great resource, but it just wasn't possible to cover every river in the state, s...

Re: Mystery Help needed

Debo and I have only been to Felsenthal a few times, due to distance from our home base. My generalized impressions included that there were several more areas that deserved exploration, and that the potential paddling opportunities were going to vary widely with the fluctuating water levels created...

Re: Mystery Help needed

The sound you describe is totally turtle. What fits is, turtles will drop before you see them, snakes often "freeze" and you'd be much more likely to see it still in the tree, or close enough to see it drop. If there is a sloped tree trunk, you'd be amazed how high they can get. Snakes als...

Re: Kayak lessons

I suggest a one-two punch, but remember I have no idea what your current skill set is, so this is sort of a "generic" answer. Go to both the River School and some of the roll sessions that were linked. The river school is the best place to learn some stuff about safety and general boat han...

Re: Lower Buffalo - Sunday April 17, 2016

TRIP REPORT: Great day on the Buffalo, prime mission accomplished, we found the dumpster we were looking for! We also snagged 5 tires, a dog feeder, a metal door of unknown origin, some geo tex matting, an old oil lamp, and some smaller trash. (Grinders ferry to Gilbert). Another fun day is already ...

Lower Buffalo - Sunday April 17, 2016

I'm planning on doing some shopping at the Gilbert Store tomorrow.... Well, that's just an excuse. I'm planning on going from Hwy 65 down to Gilbert tomorrow, and company is welcome. I'll be going pretty slow, doing a little light weight cleaning, and stopping to hike the gravel bars at a couple of ...

Re: Saline River Access Points South of I30

Call Michael at Saline River Canoe - I only know what is on maps, and don't have a good feel for local issues like which places are safe to park, etc.

Re: Caddo River Cleanup and Float - Sunday April 3, 2016

Trip Report: Jon Ellwood, Bob Tyler, Brian Harvey, Ryk Moore, and I had a beautiful, warm day on the river. The water was still a bit cool for extended swims, but certainly warm enough to allow us to retrieve stuff out of the water as needed. Our "unsual" find for the day was a porta jon, ...

Found Kayak, Burns Park North Little Rock

The Burns Park ranger reports a kayak washed up in the Park recently. If anyone has ideas on who it might belong to, have them get in touch with the ranger; it will be returned to the rightful owner. Try 501 791 8537 and ask for the Park Ranger if you think you have any information that will help.

Re: UALR pool - 2/17 YES, 2/20 YES

As a very general rule of thumb, I think your chances of finding help are best on Wednesday nights. There are of course exceptions, and just asking (as you did) improves the chance that someone might drop by to help you if they aren't already planning to be out on the water or in the woods somewhere.
