Re: Winter/Spring 2015 Wetland Touring Schedule

CSM,

I just started a new topic for the Bayou DeView trip, so I'll answer your question over there.

Bayou Deview Wetland Tour #4. 3/28/15

Our next trip is on the beautiful Bayou Deview with 1000 year old cypress and Tupelo. We will meet at T-Ricks in Hazen at 10AM. This is at the I40 exit 193. Bring lunch, drinks and snacks or stock up in Hazen. I hope that we can do the Hickson Lake to Apple Lake paddle but right now the road into Hi...

Re: Grassy Lake Wetland Tour #3 2/28/2015

Good trip at Grassy Lake. We had a group of 10 boats who paddled the loop counter clockwise. We paddled the spur trail and went on out to the levee where Cowper had the motorboat removing tornado debris from the lake. The we took the spur trail back and finished the loop. Very nice day with a great ...

Yes, the trip is still on for Sat. 21. We will meet at the Exxon station at the I40 exit in Mayflower at 10:00am. Those who already know where the put in is, can meet us there if they prefer. Looking forward to it!

Re: Stop the Bentoville dam project

I have sent comments for the Arkansas Canoe Club to Mr. Hermely as well. I sent the letter below along with some comments about the mistakes in the EA. Dear Mr. Hermely, I am commenting on the plans to remove the dam on Little Sugar Creek at Bella Vista. These comments are on behalf of the Arkansas ...

Re: Bayou DeView/Dagmar Question, Trip Report

Thanks for the trip report. I did the 17 to Apple Lake trip with some folks from Memphis on Sunday. Great trip. Our signs appeared to be in good shape. We pulled out for lunch and a pit stop on Whiskey Island. Got off around 4:00pm. Wattensaw is always a good trip and different at every level. I lik...

Re: Bayou DeView/Dagmar Question

Mikki White and I were out there yesterday. The water is almost even with the road as you get close to Hickson. The paddling is easy and wildlife was abundant. Great day!

Have fun out there.

Re: Bayou DeView/Dagmar Question

Ok, What Cowper said. There are several good floats upstream of Hwy17. We know the most about two of these sections. Neither one of these sections are signed. First: Put in at the Hwy38 bridge east of Cotton Plant and take out at Hwy17. This paddle is a little over 9 miles and the middle part of it ...

Re: Bayou DeView/Dagmar Question

The Brinkely gage should be at 14 feet or above. It is currently close to 16 feet and rising. It will hold near that level for about a week since the upstream gage at Morton is flooding and over 18 feet. The Clarendon gage is over 24 feet and this is still in the normal range but the Augusta gage up...

Re: Grassy Lake Wetland Tour #3 2/21/15

I have decided to reschedule this trip one more time. Winter weather has been uncooperative so far this year for our trips. Saturday is predicted to be bitterly cold and windy. We will try again on Saturday March 21. Hopefully we will get some nice spring weather when Grassy Lake will be at it's best.

Grassy Lake Wetland Tour #3 2/21/15

The Grassy Lake Tour had to be rescheduled due to a conflict with the ACC board meeting. I am posting early in hopes of getting the word out to everyone. Grassy lake was opened as an Arkansas Water Trail last year. It is an approximately 4 mile loop trail through a Cypress Tupelo wetland. It is an i...

Re: Wattensaw Bayou Tour #2 1/31/2015

Very nice float today. Although temps were pretty cool, the rain predicted earlier held off and water levels were optimum. Plenty of water to float over the log jam, yet low enough to appreciate the size of the big cypress trees. There were eighteen of us on the river. We stopped for a long lunch at...

Re: Grassy Lake Water Trail

Grassy Lake is full now and will remain good floating for a couple of months or much longer if we get rain. AGFC closes the gates in late October for duck season and will keep them closed for quite some time after it ends. According to 2015 calendar duck season closed on Jan. 25th this year. The wat...

We're off to a good start. We just can't seem to catch a break on the weather. The chance of rain is very low but it's going to be pretty chilly.
