Re: CURRENT RIVER AREA Oct 12 - 17

Whoa. The Donaldsons are in? Better make sure the Clampett Barge is ship shape. Let's hope the clowns in DC can get their act together in the next week and a half. Luke: Last I saw, all the accesses and most of the camping spots would be open but without services (as of 10:00 this morning.) Only Bi...

Re: CURRENT RIVER AREA Oct 12 - 17

Louis: Could you make room for a couple of Yankees for paddling from the 14th thru the 16th? We are so out of water up here, the fish are lining up at the bottled water stores! We would be staying over at Boiling Springs on the Big Piney River (West of Licking, MO) and driving over to join you each ...

Re: Opinion wanted: Yakima Outdoorsman 300

Sig: If you are using just one of these along with a roof rack, check the height compared to that of the roof rack. I purchased one from Yakima years ago (supposedly the correct model for my Chevy S10 pickup,) and it was about 6" higher than the height that would match the front roof rack. Cut ...

Re: Too Much of A Good Thing

Deuce:

NOT. That saw is a great little "one hander" that almost anyone can use from a canoe. A bit hard to carry around in a kayak, but that is not the fault of the saw.

Re: New Outfitting for a Dagger Caption

Wes: I'd not pull it in too much, but the routine looks like this: 1) Measure width and figure how much you want to change it; 2) Remove old saddle and thwarts; 3) Cut the thwarts to enforce your new width; 4) Install the thwarts temporarily (loose bolts); 5) Position the seat, measure it, cut it, m...

Re: New Outfitting for a Dagger Caption

Wes: If you're planning to do varied paddling rather than strict whitewater "attacks," I'd suggest ripping out the saddle and installing a solo seat (as high in the boat as you can stand.) The seat would allow you to kneel and to sit occasionally when the knees get beat up. Since it is a C...

Southern Missouri Paddling Trips: Report and...

Folks: We've been down here near the big city of Licking MO since Feb 15, paddling as much as possible. Rather than duplicate efforts by sending along separate trip reports, I've put up some brief trip descriptions and a few photos on our trip schedule page. http://www.iowapaddling.org/mo2013/Schedu...

Re:"Cold Water Boot Camp" Video

Luke and all: The "Cold Water Boot Camp" video is perhaps the best source I've ever found for real, documented information regarding cold shock, survivability times, cold water immersion techniques and cold water gear that I've ever seen. I bought 7 copies and gave 6 of them away to Iowa c...

Re: Current River Trip Report

All:

If Luke and crew managed to get to Round Spring ANY time on Monday, they did a great job, considering the headwind. (...and considering the "oarrible" situation with the raft propulsion...)

Hats off to 'em.

Re: Current River Trip NOW WITH A KINDA SORTA PLAN

All: Luke should have stories galore, regarding: 1) Items left behind; 2) Equipment manufactured on the river; 3) Manufactured equipment sliding into the river (never to be seen again); 4) Newly manufactured replacement equipment involving native woody plants; and 5) General raft and canoe behavior ...

Re: Can You I.D. This Canoe???

D:

Possibly an older Sawyer, but you'd need dimensions to determine the model, if it is one.
