Re: Wednesday on 'tot, Baker, or Little Mo?

Little Mo may drop out, but I'll check gauges first thing and see what the options are.

Re: Wednesday on 'tot, Baker, or Little Mo?

Given my later start, I'd prefer to avoid the longer shuttle on upper 'tot, as compared to Little Mo. Would prefer Baker Creek if it holds, but want to paddle something!

Wednesday on 'tot, Baker, or Little Mo?

Could get away from work around 11:00 tomorrow and be at Little Mo, Baker or 'tot by 12:30. Anyone paddling tomorrow afternoon in the Ouachitas? Will be checking gauges . . . Wouldn't it be nice if Crooked Creek came up!

Re: canoeing with kids

Summer is probably better for the kids. Warm water and warm days make for more fun in the water. You can also find some good archived articles in Canoe and Kayak or Canoeroots magazines about canoe camping with kids. But the advice already given is sound: start with short trips, take plenty of break...

Re: canoeing with kids

For others who might want to practice/polish some skills, over the weekend I re-hung a set of slalom gates like we used many moons ago to do pool slalom competitions. These are 5 gates hung in an x pattern. It's a great way to polish boat control and the moves required for eddy turns and peel outs, ...

Re: canoeing with kids

Won't have too much time before water is too cold to enjoy, BUT if you'd like to bring your crew down and try them out on small lake or short stretch of Caddo River, I have a variety of boats the kids could play in/on/under/around and see if you can get them hooked on the fun. One hour from LR down ...

Re: Looking for good Tandem locations

Caddo River at Caddo Valley down to Arkadelphia is always doable in summer, though better for morning since level gets highs in afternoons with release from DeGray dam. Or a shorter section from the lower dam access to Caddo Valley. This is about two miles. CV to Arkadelphia is about seven. One hour...

Re: DeGray Lower Lake

34 / 10' 49" N. 93 / 6' 1" W If, that is I read Google Earth correctly. Exit 78 off I 30. Take hwy 390 (also called Lower Dam Pike and looks like service road-- it parallels the west bound on ramp.) Follow that road about 1.5 miles until it goes to gravel. In 100 yards or so the ramp will ...

DeGray Lower Lake

Just returned from an afternoon paddle on the Lower Lake at DeGray. It's just down the road, but we have seldom paddled it, though I'm not sure why. This little lake is just down stream from the main DeGray Dam and the Caddo River access is just downstream of the lower dam. It forms a lake of over 4...

Upper Buff Mon or Tues: share a shuttle?

Heading up Sunday to Jasper area for a few days. Will likely paddle Ponca or Steel Creek to Kyles on Monday or Tuesday. Anyone else going to be up there and care to shuttle?
