Re: MT. Hersey to Woolum

Rain train is over with. Some areas got more than others, but the Buffalo is on the rise is unevenly. At 8PM Wed 7-23-14 BOXLEY gauge was at 1500CFS and 5.7 on the gauge. Pruitt had come up half a foot. So check ALL the functions at each gauge like for precipitation and CFS as well as the gauge leve...

Buffalo getting rain and the storm is training

Just thought some of you might want to look at the gauges and radar for the Buffalo. I'm already promised out for Thursday and Friday, but hope someone get to go if it comes up.

Re: 71 yr. old Solo needs advice

I live on Beaver Lake at Monte Ne on HW 94 SPUR. Give me a shout next week if you want to go out for some refresher and paddleing tips. I'd offer tomorrow, but I'm already promised out until Monday. Got some gear you might like to try. I'm only 62, but have had one shoulder done, one knee replaced, ...

Re: Ponca to Kyles Sat 7-12-14 cancelled

I had another really bad night with my knee and canceled on Stephen at 7AM due to lack of sleep. Susan and I went sea kayaking on Beaver lake from our house which required only 1000 feet of driving to and from the put in combined, instead of 4-5 hours and this trip was more to her time frame. Sorry f...

Re: stanley canoe

There were also fiberglass canoes made under the Stanley Canoe nameplate.

I've seen some of both types.

Re: Robert "Sparky" Mitzel

I could imagine Sparky wanting you to continue the name for the boat's sake, and just remembering him to others when you talk about it, instead of retiring the board name. He really liked to paddle and came alive on the water.

Re: Robert "Sparky" Mitzel

Jim Potts at Lewis & Clark said he heard that it was a heart attack that got Sparky and that they will see us there Wed. Some how I can see Sparky grinning that he had beat the big C at the end. Sorry for the inaccuracies. Sparky's subtle humor got me and it only took me 8 years to find out. Eri...

Re: "Sparky"

I guess Sparky was having a joke on me that day, as I had my paddleing directory out and wrote down what he said when I asked him what his given name was, as all I had ever heard him called was "Sparky." He did have a sense of humor and always a smile.

Robert "Sparky" Mitzel

Sorry to bear bad tidings, but figured that folks here would want to know. Robert Mitzel, known to most of us in NW Arkansas as "Sparky", died this morning from cancer. Sparky was the first paddler I met after moving to Rogers/Monte Ne. Services not announced yet. Saw it on a facebook post...

Re: Tom Kennon's Neurosurgery

Tom - looking forward to your getting well, running shuttle with you, for a gravel bar campout on the Buffalo with many of your cheering section from the Arkansas Canoe Club. Might have to do more than one float as I'm not sure the NPS wants that many people at a campsite. Let us know when you are r...
