Re: whitewater kayaking and corrective eyewear

I'm still learning to roll, and am a contact wearer. I use swim goggles when I'm practicing rolls, and contacts in the pool or river. I always have spare emergency glasses. I talked to my eye doc about eye infection concerns, so he gave me a prescription for some daily wear disposables to use in lie...

Contact lenses & kayaking

This is an issue I've discussed with some members, but never got definitive information. Therefore, I've done a bunch of research, including with my eye care provider and another eye doc. Long and short of this is that contacts are OK when kayaking (or other water activities), BUT with some serious ...

Re: Trip Report: Helton's to Long Pool

Deuce, I really appreciate you not mentioning the time I tried to enter an eddy, got in late, and banged into one of the giant rubber boats. Would have flipped except for the grab handle on the way oversized inner tube. For me, it was a step up in water challenge. But please keep my flub secret! Gre...

Re: BIG PINEY SATURDAY

Just wanted to say to the group that I greatly enjoyed the trip, and learned a lot. It helped me step up my game a bit. Special thanks to Liz and Stephen for instructional advice. This was my first return to Piney for many years, and the water was bigger than when I last paddled it, and it was my fi...

Re: Fisher's Ford Saturday

Dustin, I might be interested in joining you some day next week, but not this weekend. I've never paddled the ford before, and I'm definitely NOT an instructor. Like you, I'm looking to work on rolling and playing some of the waves there. If no instructor shows up, it would be the "blind leadin...

Re: BIG PINEY SATURDAY

I'm definitely interested in this float. I'd be in kayak, so I hope it's not just rafts. Also, I haven't been on the Piney for a long time, so I'd need some very specific info on how to find the put in spot, or a meeting place. I have a truck, so could easily carry one more kayak and paddler. I'm in...

Re: Mullberry Apr 22-23 ?

I haven't tried that, but I'd say the answer is "yes". For example, there's a parking area / put in called Byrd's Park & Play, with easy access to Whoop & Hollar rapid. Byrd charges a fee for parking on this private property. Check with Byrd's Adventure Center 479-667-4066. They ca...

Re: Mullberry Apr 22-23 ?

Depending on weather, water, and whatever, I might be interested in joining you. Can't commit yet, but will let you know as we get closer to the dates. (sent you some info by email)

Re: Mulberry Saturday 29 Mar or Sunday 30 Mar

Barry, I'm watching the radar and the gauges, and might be interested next Tues or Thurs. I'm an old hand at canoes, but only about a year in kayaks, so I'm limiting myself to Class I to II+. By the way, I'm a retired vol FF/EMT. Email me at hwgresham@gmail.com or call 479-366-6379 if things are rea...

Re: Buffalo River trip Thursday 3/20

A couple of us paddled from Ponca to Kyle's. Fantastic day. Warm and sunny, and perfect water level. Enough water to cover all the shoals, and provide great rapids. We saw a few other boaters, but definitely not crowded. Got to practice lots of what makes kayaking so much fun.

Buffalo River trip Thursday 3/20

A couple of us will meet tomorrow, Thursday 3/20, at the Buffalo Outdoor Center at Ponca. Plan to run from bridge to Kyles, or somesuch. Will either run our own shuttle or hire BOC to shuttle. Anyone interested be at BOC around 9:30 to 10am. Look for a red Jeep with a 13' green canoe, or my Chevy 4 ...

Re: Looking for a kayak trip

Yesterday everything I posted got doubled or tripled at exactly the same time. I'm not sure what happened. On my computer, I noticed the old USB wireless keyboard started to act funny, then virtually quit entirely. Replaced it this morning. That might have been the problem. Perhaps when I hit "...
