Re: Petit Jean Davies Bridge Waterfall

It's got a wicked lower shelf just below where its landing, and there's some rocks that most of the water lands on. I went to Petiti-Jean about two months ago, and trust me I was scouting lines the whole time. IF you decided to run it, you'd have to have a ton of speed to clear the shelf and rocks. ...

Re: ARKLATEX CHAPTER MEETING *********************************

Somehow my coach moved my practice to thursday and the chapter meeting is this week. I'll be there. It's gonna be a great way to start off my trip to the Ocoee and Tellico later in the week.

Great News for Shreveport boaters...

Wallace Lake Dam is finally running. I went out today and managed a few spins, enders, and side surfs. Nothing crazy, but I'd say that 147 is the new minimum for this playspot. It should be running tomorrow when the weather's 70 degrees outside-ideal conditions...anyone who didn't make the trip nort...

Re: How to get the US Army Corps on your side!!!!

No idea how to convert to cfs. But after going out there yesterday, I'd say that the new level for any whitewater paddling is 147/148. Things have moved around in the last couple of years and made it a lot bonier-146 is just too low. Also, there's a log in the middle that we need to pull out.

Re: How to get the US Army Corps on your side!!!!

Well, as long as the meetings are on Wed. nights, I can't make them. Or if they stay at their same time. I've got soccer practice for Centenary then, and I can;t exactly miss (if I did, i'd be running till next year). My dad's rep's the Goodwin's at the meetings- he'll have more info than I do.

Re: How to get the US Army Corps on your side!!!!

Agreed. But it's got to get down to 142 for it to be possible to move anything. And I vote that we wait till it's a LOT warmer. Maybe we could propose this at the next Ark-la-tex chapter meeting...

Re: How to get the US Army Corps on your side!!!!

Also, on a side note, the lower picture you took is best at around 144/143. They're slanted standing waves, but fun nonetheless.

Re: How to get the US Army Corps on your side!!!!

I've been paddling here for years. There's no gators, but beware the snakes when you put in. No one has ever told me not to paddle, and I've talked to many state troopers about it. The area is a public park, and the corp seems to be fine with it. I wouldn't ever want to swim here, but I learned quit...

Re: Weekend at the Tot

We'll definately be running saturday and sunday. The 'Tot should hold out for a good level on saturday without rain- and there's three more days of rain in the forecast (including the rest of today). I think it'll work out. 318-272-3293.

Weekend at the Tot

I realize that a ton of people are running the tot today and tomorrow. I won't be free till friday night. The Goodwin's will be at the Tot all saturday (thank god it'll be a little warmer than it is right now) and a good chunk of sunday. Any Ark-la-tex boaters wanting to head up- we'll be leaving fr...

Re: Rain!

BITE YOUR TONGUE AND KNOCK ON EVERY PIECE OF WOOD YOU'VE GOT. You can plan on making trips to AR to paddling, maybe even pick a few rivers, but one thing I've learned from experience is that you can never predict enough rain. Jinxing yourself out of paddling is the worst. I've done it too many times...

Thanks for telling us about this. I picked up a pair. Oh, and they added size ten's since the last time I looked at the website.

Re: Favorite class 3-4 runs in Ark.

From what I have done in AR, the most consistently running, fun river is the Cossatot. It is a great river with a wide Class range, and a great river to learn and perfect all the moves on. I learned how to eddy hop in the Esses, how to spin because of the section from Ed Banks downward, and ran my f...
