Re: Grassy Lake Water Trail 4/18/15
Palarm Creek is rising and its backwater may soon flood Grassy Lake Road under I-40. The "Alternate Route" may be the only way to get to the water trail put-in on Saturday. Since there is essentially no current on the water trail, high water does not present any additional hazard. We shoul...

Re: Where to paddle -Little Rock, Conway area?
I recommend checking out the Grassy Lake Water Trail in the Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area. Directions: South of Mayflower on Highway 365, turn east onto Grassy Lake Road. (An Arkansas Game & Fish sign is near the intersection.) Travel under Interstate 40 & turn right at the Stop sign....

Re: easy flat water/black water paddling this weekend
Check out the Grassy Lake Water Trail in the Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area. We had a trip there March 22. You can find more info in the "Paddling Trips" section. I paddled it today & there is plenty of water.

Re: March 22 - Grassy Lake Water Trail
I spent Thursday & Friday at Grassy. There is plenty of water! Last Sunday night's rain flooded the area. On Thursday the section of Grassy Lake Road near I-40 was flooded. I was able to get to the put-in by taking I-40 Exit 135 (Highway 89). If traveling west on I-40, turn Right at the end of t...

Re: March 22 - Grassy Lake Water Trail
Trip Report: 16 people in 15 canoes & kayaks paddled the Grassy Lake Water Trail Saturday. The sun came out and we had fantastic weather. We checked out the heron rookery as well as several beaver lodges. Half way through the trip the group split up. Some wanted a very leisurely paddle while ot...

Re: March 22 - Grassy Lake Water Trail
This is a draft of the information sign that will be posted in a few weeks at the water trail access. I am planning to paddle the Grassy Lake Loop and the Bell Slough Spur. "Stan"

Re: March 22 - Grassy Lake Water Trail
This will be a leisurely paddle. The group will probably be on the water by 10 AM. We'll take a short side trip to see a heron rookery and depending on the water level a side trip to an open water area where I recently saw hundreds of ducks feeding. We'll have lunch and work our way around the water...

March 22 - Grassy Lake Water Trail
This new 4.5 mile water trail is in the Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area. This is a flatwater trip. No current but quite a bit of maneuvering as we follow the winding trail through the trees. We will meet at 9 AM at the Palarm Creek parking lot. Travel east on Grassy Lake Road which is off of Hi...

Re: Wetlands Tour - Grassy Lake
The trip will be about 5 miles in length. The amount of time depends on how much bird watching we do. There is no shuttle. Participants wanting to return to their vehicles sooner rather than later can follow the water trail signs back to the parking lot. Grassy Lake is filled with trees and the trai...

Wetlands Tour - Grassy Lake
Grassy Lake is a hidden treasure and one of my favorite places to paddle in Arkansas. A group of intrepid swampers has been working on a water trail and finished posting the trail signs last week. The recent rains have flooded the lake and I am planning on taking a leisurely tour of the water trail ...

Re: Bayou DeView - Saturday, April 6
Recommend checking out Debo's response on the "Cache River". She's posted lots of good info. Sorry about not responding sooner. I have been working on the Grassy Lake water trail and have not looked at the ACC message board for some time.

Re: Grassy Lake/Bell Slough
Grassy Lake is one of my favorite places to paddle. The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and some members of the canoe club are working on developing a water trail there. A preliminary water trail has been flagged using pink flagging. (The long streamers make is easier to see the route.) While Gr...
