Re: Pulp mill lower Caddo east of Amity AR
LeanDoc, Maybe I'm too blunt. We do agree on a few points though. Trees are good and trees absorb CO2,,,, especially young trees. Yes they are a great buffer and I like you, don't want Arkansas denuded of trees. I don't like pollution anymore than you do. However you are saying things that are not t...

Re: Pulp mill lower Caddo east of Amity AR
Leandoc, Trees grow faster here in the South than they do in the North. They especially grow fast here in Arkansas because of the amount of rain we receive. Since WWII logging Arkansas has been sustainable. Throughout the twentieth century, companies, large and small, were active across the state. D...

Re: Pulp mill lower Caddo east of Amity AR
LeanDoc,
The fact is Arkansas has been doing commercial logging for over 150 years. None of your dire predictions have come true. The proof is in the pudding.

Doom and Gloom
This is a bunch of doom and gloom. A company is investing a billion dollars in Arkansas and creating jobs and jobs where they are needed, I would like to point out. In return they are being painted as a bunch of ax murderers. LeanDoc, "if" what you are saying was true, Arkansas would be ba...

Re: Pulp mill lower Caddo east of Amity AR
Forced carbon offsets is a great idea! More regulations, more laws, bigger government and a efficiency like no other. Being the parent company is chinese, maybe if we petition, we can get the UN to come in and sort out the idiot locals that don't care about their own environment. This sort of decisi...

Re: Outfitters Offering Rafting Trips?
Moores Outdoors in Dover is where I would start. The Big Piney is our best rafting river. Moores offers guided and self guided trips. I've camped on the Piney out of a raft before. Go high enough(Treat) and float down low enough(twin bridges) and you can turn it into a multi-day. "Some" pl...

Re: Looking at cataraft frames
Wasn't that baby cataraft called the Water Wolf or something named after a animal. One time MT and I flipped a coin to see if we would R2 the original Corky or his Water Wolf. Less than a mile down the Mulberry I felt like I lost a bet. That was one wet ride. No rocker at all. It looked like Huckleb...

Re: Looking at cataraft frames
Hey Rob, I got a 12' Jacks Plastic Welding Cutthroat. It is fun and it sure is maneuverable. It has enough space for a overnighter if you pack like a backpacker,,, not so much for a car camper. The only thing I don't like about it is the frame. The oar locks are welded on, not bolted on. So there is...

Re: Buffalo Canoes
Ozark Mountain Trading Co can fix you up. They are in Garfield. Just had them change out junky plastic seats for nice wood cane's and had them put the lowering kit's on them. They changed out the thwarts too. They took a old Old Town and fancied it up for my nephew's Christmas present. Looks so grea...

Everything that is old is new again. It's funny when looking through those old pictures I was mesmerized by the canvas lean-to tents with porch. I was thinking of what I was going to write. Then I read the rest of the post and you guys are already all over it! Thanks for the links Dave.

Odd. Most people have already gone through the "internet has everything" phase. The current trend is local local local. Since the planned rip off of 2008, trust of out of state corps is at a all time low. OOO is a friend on the river.

Re: 14ft Raft w/ frame and oars
Yeah, your right Dave. I think that is the first slant seat I have seen in Arkansas. That is more of a commercial design. You can stack rafts with the frames still on. Rafting is a lot of fun for me, because I can get people down a river, that they could not paddle themselves.

Re: RBF, Minus One - R.I.P. Kenny Pearson (updated)
Kenny will be missed. The first time I met Kenny he was sitting on a log in front of Sacs on the Mulberry eating a bologna sandwich. He was in his element and was calmer than a Hindu cow. His life jacket was sun faded and his river clothes were well worn. Even a rookie like me knew he had been here ...
