Re: Royalex canoes soon to be a thing of the past?
You are right -- if we see Royalex again it will likely be produced overseas where production costs can be better contained. Seems fabrication entails a lot of manual labor (as well as difficult to acquire ingredients) and if it were produced here it would price itself out of the market. In fact, on...

Re: Royalex canoes soon to be a thing of the past?
Michael -- I share your hopes that the demise of Royalex will simply mean future innovation and creation of materials that are lighter, stronger and less expensive. I have always been a big proponent of Prijon's blow-molded plastic -- TOUGH! Pretty light. And possibly indestructible.

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
Sig -- as if your post stayed on topic. Hypocrisy? That's how these threads go -- they touch on a lot of issues that may only be tangentially related to paddling even thouggh they impact all paddlers. Plus it must of interest to our community -- tis' a lot of hits and views -- maybe just voyeurs but...

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
Deuce -- You actually confirmed my point -- as you stated folks on the spring know it is illegal to be drunk on the river yet do it anyway -- obviously the threat of a fine or punishment is not an effective deterrent. Similarly you can put people in jail all day long for meth and at the end of the m...

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
I have to disagree with mgood -- first, I rather an officer stop me at the put-in than pull me aside midway on on a reach. First is safety is the issue wouldn't you think the officers would stop folks from even getting on the river without a PFD than stopping them after they have already been on the...

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
Indeed -- anyone such as Cowper who has removed tons of trash from our waterways over the years will lose a piece every once in awhile -- especially with his boat overbrimming with debris. And sadly the law is construed in a manner that such good deeds could be punished. Moreover, when I do a river ...

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
Tis a poorly written law. For example, if the law is to be strictly construed then it would forbid only glass containers -- and sheets of glass, glass fragments, metal shards and any "non-container" glass would be acceptable. Moreover the law would not apply to many ceramics -- glass is an...

Re: Wild Flower Identification
Tough! Especially as the bug appears to be in larvae form and lacks a lot of its distinguishing features. On the one hand it resembles a few species of lady bugs and milkweed beetles here in Arkansas but I am going to go with some type of leaf bug simply because I have seen a few before with the whi...

Re: Who has gotten Litter Law tickets in 2013?
Did you know that there are currently five states where a first offense speeding ticket will cost the driver over $1000.00? I kid you not! I'm all for safety and clean rivers but a lot of regulatory activity is simply another way for cities, states and government agencies to "tax" folks wh...

For those who are concerned -- why we need to prevent trash from getting into our rivers:

Re: Crackpots prevail: Feds rescind White River Blueway desi
Not only did those “backward paranoid hillbilly crackpots” prevail – they kicked butt! On Wednesday (yesterday) Barrack Hussein Obama put the entire Bluewater program on hold. Seems they found out folks living within the White Water watershed weren’t too keen on having federal, state and local agenc...

Re: Crackpots prevail: Feds rescind White River Blueway desi
Wow -- I have never heard it put as: " I also think the Buffalo would say, 'you took my friends and made them my enemies, and you gave me a caretaker who doesn't have a connection with the locals and who treats visitors as criminals'". Well said -- and having lived on Clabber Creek within ...
