Re: Arkansas River Float Trip
Hey potters, When are you planning to go and would you like some company during the first leg? I have been thinking about doing the river from Ft. Smith to Clarksville. I havn't done any of my own research yet, so if you have some extra time...... ;) In any case, let me know what your schedule looks...

Re: White River Overnighter . . . or two
Ya, that's how these things go. Looks like some of my family have taken a turn for the worse as well and I'm stuck for a bit.

Re: Yaks on the Arkansas
Wow! This is GREAT information! A HUGE 'thank you' to the US Coast Guard and for providing the great links as well. I believe this is the unequivocal authority on the subject. Fantastic!

Re: Yaks on the Arkansas
Thanks for the input guys. Being a newb I wasn't sure if there were special rules on the Arkansas or something. The guy in question painted a pretty bleak picture of death if I went down the Arkansas.

Yaks on the Arkansas
Has anyone done any kayaking on the Arkansas. I have been thinking about doing a trip from Ozark Dam, down to Clarksville. Someone told me if I took my yak out on the Arkansas Game and Fish would pick me up and fine me.

Re: White River Overnighter . . . or two
Since I am so new, does anyone have a list of gear they normally bring? Particularly is there a tent anyone is in particular love with? I'm guessing food, change of clothes, fishing gear, etc. But there is always that little thing I tend to forget, like a dry bag. hehhhe

Re: White River Overnighter . . . or two
If I am able to go, it would have to be for July 29th. I am pretty new to this and havn't taken the yak out for more than a day, so I am still learning.

Re: Rank beginner needs help choosing kayak.
I like to stick with 12 footers for basic over-night touring. You can do basic WW with it, and still do flat water, and the tracking is nice. I've paddled 9 footers and I'm not a huge fan, unless I'm taking a lot of white water. Plus i'm kinda a heavy bloke (220 lbs) so I like a bit more room offere...

Re: White River Overnighter . . . or two
I would love to go as well. But alas, I am in the middle of an ERP integration so I'm stuck to Weekends only. Let me know if anyone is doing for a weekender. I just got my kayak this year, a Wilderness Systems 120 and I'm loving it. Can't seem to get out on the water enough. Did Heber Springs a coup...

Re: Touring
Hey! thanks for the info, must definitely check out Ouchita! Island hopping sounds like a ton of fun. Iv'e already had the kayak down the Mulberry at 3.0 earlier in the year, but I went again last week at 1.65 and it was brutal! So I'm looking at some touring stuff.
thanks again!
