Re: Contact lenses & kayaking
10 years of WW kayaking with gas perm lenses. I've lost one. No eye problems whatsoever- and I paddle the infamous Dallas Wave with all it's ecoli bio-soup hype.

If you have a DSLR, 100mm Macro lens, light table, copy of Photoshop, and a MacBookPro, you can do it for free*!

Re: Jackson factory C1 outfitting
My buddy Matt Fritz just installed one in a Rock Star. He loves it. He had to mod it just slightly because it apparently is designed for the new rail, not the old pipe. But he made it work just fine. Because that's what C1ers do- 'saw to suit and file to fit'.

I made a page like that for Texas. It's just a big solid red block. All the time.

Re: Totally OT; mac HELP!!!
I would spend the grand and make the jump to 10.6.
I spend that at least every other year- not counting hardware upgrades.
It's only gonna get worse the longer you put it off.
I put off the 9 to 10 move for years (about 5 years ago!), so I feel your pain.
Been through the lightning strike thing too.

Re: Big Freakin' Exciting News in Big D
By the way, I'm sure I speak for all of the other North Texas paddlers when I say it is sure refreshing to read all this positive feedback in this thread. We posted this up on the Dallas Observer site and just got non stop trash talk from dozens of locals.

Re: Big Freakin' Exciting News in Big D
Water quality doesn't seem bad. Minimal trash floating around. I would bring your noseplugs though. This is 'Big City Paddling'.
Camping: Closest I can think of is Cedar Hill State Park at Joe Pool Lake or Corps of Engineers at Grapevine Lake- neither of which are really close.

Fall Foliage
Ok, every year I see a post about this and ignore it. Now that I need the info, I don't see it anywhere. Anyone have any current beta on fall color around the Talimena Scenic Drive? Should I venture north this weekend or stay in Texas?

Well, I'm not a kid anymore, haven't had a pet since 1974, and I paddle Jacksons, so I think my feet will stay dry.Dave Thomas wrote:" ...I would recommend keeping any kids, pets, and feet out of the Trinity River"!
I should be ok.

Re: Dallas Whitewater Park
okc-horton, This section of the Trinity is below five (5) metroplex lakes. That was the whole idea of this particular location. Even if each lake is only releasing 100 cfs, it adds up to 500 cfs at this feature. Well... not exactly, because there are 2 sets of lakes that dump into each other. Comple...
