Has anyone been on the river since the flood? I was thinking about floating Drag over this weekend. Is the gate open to get to the put in? Any hazards I should know about? Thanks in advance for info.

The area is owned by the USFS. It was maintained by Montgomery county. The signs says "Day Use Only Open 6am til 10pm".

Re: Drag Over
I agree that these campgrounds are much safer than Albert Pike. I was really surprised that all 3 campgrounds we visited on Friday had the river up in them. River Bluff had all the picnic tables under water. Fulton Branch had water in the campground, and Drag over had water up to the lower tier of t...

Drag Over
Went to Drag Over Friday afternoon to see how high the river was. Met a local that says people are campimg at Drag over all the time. He said the campground was full on Memorial Day weekend. Has anyone witnessed anyone camping at Drag Over or any of the other float camps? I thought they were closed ...

Re: Are the Ouachita River Float Camps really closed?
I maybe wrong but I don't believe ownership has changed. The county had been maintaining them for a while. I assume that has not changed. I emailing Chris Ham with the forest service. You can contact him at ( cpham@fs.fed.us). They had flood danger evalueations done and are in the process of making ...

Re: Law Enforcement on the Remmel Section
I wonder who's responsibility it is to put these signs up. Because if i was an attorney, I would call that any ticket given to anyone on a waterway where a sign is not erected, a unlawful ticket. Below is the actual location, chapter and verse of the State's requirement to notify the public. 8-6-41...

Re: want to float
The release on the Lower Caddo will really make the floating better. Even during release would still consider a class 1. If on the weekend you may want to go in the morning to avoid the crowds of tube floaters. Remmell to Rockport is a good float if you wait for the weekend.

Ouachita Float Camps Closed To Camping
Read in the paper today that Shirley Creek, Rocky Shoals, Fulton Branch, Dragover, and River Bluff on the Ouachita are closed to overnight camping starting today. It is to give the Forest Service time to evaluate potential flood danger. Shame they couldn't do it over the winter. It shouldn't take a ...

Re: Packin' While Paddlin'
I just read a discussion on solo tripping and several of the participants indicated that they never went on one without a pistol. I've never felt the need for one (unless I count the time we were besieged all night by a surfeit of skunks :x ), but what about you guys? I'm just curious (read bored :...
